Chicken Names - Just for fun

Recommended Posts

This is my first post, how do you lot do all that stuff with eggs etc?

Welcome aboard, Beez :D . This shows you how to do it :) .

My names began with Maisie from the Maisie the cat stories set in Edinburgh (she lives 2 miles away from me  ).

Was looking for Scottish names but ended up down the alliteration route instead (it was easier  ).

I have no idea how to add to the Wiki and have never even found it

my girls names are ..

Sugar - originally named Pearl but older son said "come here Sugar" and changed his mind and though Sugar was a better name, I believe she was the first Sugar on the board but I might be mistaken.

and

Cocoa - named before younger son even saw her as he wanted a brown chicken, but when he saw 'Cocoa' in all her bluey petrolly feathers he fell in love so the name stuck.

I only have two girls

Hubby was a table tennis player so the original girls were Ping & Pong. Fine until Pong had to go to the vet on her own....... As a single chook Ping now gets called Pingle.

Hatpin, Bartel & Ablett are all named after Aussie Rules Football players, as was Brian.

Volty is a lame battery joke  Brenda was named after a good friend (with her blessing!) and Lucy was named Lucy because, well, she just looks like a Lucy to me. That and I get to sing the Andy Pandy song at her every day :D

Mooney was because she has a bare bum and mooned at hubby. Trilby because of her enlarged comb (and Hatpin was already taken :D) and Shiraz because she has a bald neck and we 'neck' a lot of shiraz ;)

Great that Egluntine is putting all these names on (helpful as ever!) but the Wiki is really easy. I managed and I'm no genius with computers.

All you need to do is go into the Wiki using the link at the top, register as you would for the forum, and then go into the Chicken Names bit, click on the letter you want to add to so if you are adding Inga, you'd go to the "I" bit, click on edit, and type in Inga, then click on save page, it'll ask you to type in two words to stop spamming then it's done and you can go to the next name etc. etc.....

I have visions of Egluntine with plastered up fingers from adding everybody's names otherwise!!!!:wink::lol:

Oooh can you do mine please - I tried & failed.

I wanted to stick to a music ska/punk/rock theme too, but DD came along & ruined that idea straight away!

Ramona, Slayer, Belina, Ozma Apple (yes thats one name!), Lazarus (aka Frizz). Mary & Martha.

When I thought Frizz was dead I was worried Ozma Apple would be lonely what with being so young - so went & got her a friend - only thing is that they wouldn't sell just 1 chick - only 2 - the following day Frizz came to life again (will dig out thread for those who are really confused!). The 2 newbies were named Mary & Martha - Lazarus' sisters in the Bible!

Still not sure if I have the room to keep these tiny tots. 6 Pekin bantams is pushing it in my garden....

Clash City Rocker - we have a Strummer (no first name) too - tend to refer to her as a he though. Oldest son named him as the Clash is his favourite band.

My other two sons namned theirs Polly and Lucky. Lucky died this morning. He called her Lucky because she had a limp when she came to us and he felt that she was lucky she'd found a good home. Have told him she WAS lucky because if he hadn't picked her no-one else might have becauser of the limp, so at least she had a happy three months with us.

Mine is Dora. I was going to give her a pretty and old-fashioned name but she just isn't a pretty chicken - stand-offish in temeramenbt and handsome in looks so I thought Dora was better.

If I was naming a group of chickens myself again I'd name them after herbs (Coriander, Lavender etc) or old-fashioned girls names - Maisie, Milly, Elsie maybe.
