Ardene5
Hi Everyone, We are in the middle of building a Winter run for our 9 girls. Just as a matter of interest what size(s) have other omletteers made their hand built runs. Thank you. bokbokbok
Ours is 10' by 9' and walk in. We had as many as 8 chooks in it for a while but I could see that was too many - when one girl died and we got down to 7 it was just right. 6 was *we could squeeze another couple in here you know. . . * Hope this helps. redfrock
12 x 15 feet. just right for our 10 girls (now increased to eleven by Fate). Probably could fit another couple in and still have plenty of room, but any more than that and I wouldn't be too happy, as they are in at all day when we are at work, until we get home, and of course in the winter free range time is minimal because we leave when it is darka nd get home when it is dark (how miserable )
Snowy
Mine is just over 2m x 4m for 10 girls. The cube is on the outside as well. It seems just right for 10 - possibly up to 12 if pushed, and they have plenty of perches and shrubbery.

redfrock
Mine too - all different height perches and a lovely big permanent dust bath which they seem to adore, and can often all be found writhing around in! ( sounds rude! trying to think of a better adjective! )

Yes, the run was built around an existing shrub border. They've destroyed the softer plants, but we still have a cherry tree (had to lop the top off, but it is sprouting again), a holly and a weigela. There were also a couple of middle sized hebes but they've about had it now
Egluntyne
Mine is 9' x 18' with eleven of my girls in it at the mo.
Clur
Ours is 6ft x 3ft, but the eglu and run, sits outside that (the eglu run feeds into the wooden one). That's for our 3 girls and is what we keep them in when we're both at work.
Helly Welly
Ours is 12 x 12 foot as that was the size of the wood that Wickes sold. We also have the cube on the outside so they have loads of room, even with their perches and shrubs.
Jules.
Mine is 6 by 9 feet with the cube on the outside, & just over 5 feet high.

Yolky
I have a walk in run with my eglu on a platform so as to utilise all ground space. The run is 2m by 4m for my three girls. They have loads of room and they love it in there.
helenc
Ours is 3m x 3m and we have a 'shelf' type thing which is a metre wide for them to use too, they have lots of room in there but we are planning to move it and at least double the length of it so we cn get another 4!! toastedblue
ours is a mere 2.5m x 1.6m x 2m high, that's all the room we could afford to lose in the garden at the moment there are 3 hens in there but we have 3 chicks to move in around November/December a neighbour has a 7m x 2m run, it seems huge in comparison but he has a huge garden
Ardene5
Thanks to everyone who has replied. We were interested because we are in the middle of the build of a winter run. the size is 20 ft x 10 ft x 6ft high standing on raised flags. The idea is to put eglu inside the run along with some plants in plantpots. The cube will be connected to the side of the run well that is the theory. The only thing stopping us finishing it is the weather... it is sort of wet!!! Best regards Ian & Valerie William & Harry Missy & Millie dogs 9 hens purple eglu & cube and an almost finished winter run
Snowy
Sounds good, but make sure you put some rocks around the roots of the pot plants. Root balls seem to make very attractive dust baths
Ardene5
Hi My young son has just suggested that with all the rain around that we should make a moat around the raised run and put a bridge to the run. We think he has a very good imagination!!!
