Pebbles has to go I Can't take anymore, she has a new home!

Recommended Posts

I am sorry to post but I need help ,

Does anyone know of a place near surrey where I can rehome my sussex hybrid ,

I am NOT doing this lightly, however she is out of control, I have had all my girls since day one , and have had problems with her she cosisently pulls feathers ( has a bumper bit ) have tried anti peck spray and purple spray and ukadex. more than one feed station , food hung up , they have chips in run and corn and treats in there each day so as they have to scratch up to get treats and they get to free range at least for 2 hours a day and more at weekends and have the conv on the eglu run for when they are in it .

But the situation has got worse not better i have had them over 12 weeks now and My GNR is completly bald at the back she looks like an ex bat as does my PP , she jumps for food and treats its like she is perminently wired , and i don't know how much longer my nerves can go on hearing my girls scream !!! when under attack or how much longer they will resist her before they give in and let her have them . I think she needs a bigger flock and a rooster to keep her in check,

I don't hold out much hope of finding her a home ( as she is soo aggressive to my other girls not to me she crouches for me when i go near her ) and am thinking she will have to go to the big roost in the sky .

sorry but I know i am clutching at straws but i do not know what else i can do I am soo upset even writing this post has started me off .

But my other 2 girls need a rest now .

I would like to thank you all for all the advice and support you have given me without this forum I don't think i could have given her as long as I have .

unless someone here is very kind and would help you out, you'll find it hard to rehome your chicken if she is aggressive.

my friend once had a dodgy bird who was a bit lairy for her chooks so she went to her local farm and said they could have her. as long as she is laying well they may accept her.

Thank you for the suggestion of the farms I will try tomorrow I am not expecting anyone to take her as I know she will be a handful !!! and wouldn't want to inflict her on anyone elses hens .

She does lay everyday so hopefully they may well but I'm not holding out much hope I just hate the fact i will have to have her put to sleep ( as although she does have a feather fettish) I just feel like i'm giving up on her and I don't like that thought , But I've just got to do it for my other 2 girls sake and sanity .

Have you tried removing her and putting her in solitary for a week or so?

She might learn some manners when she goes back in at the bottom of the pile.

Failing that, is there a city farm or similar near you that might take her? Somewhere with a rooster to lay down the law.

Horrible dilemma for you. I hope you find a solution.

I haven't tried removing her for so long as I only have a puppy crate to house her in ,

Would this be ok for so long ?

If i let her free range with the others ( no pulling of feathers then so far)

I am desperate as i don't want to put her to sleep if there is anyway to avoid it .

If so how would I go about it .would I keep her in it unless freeranging but insight of the girls in the run and bring her in at night

Hello and hugs to you. I am so sorry this is happening to you but please don't feel bad. There are "rogues" in all animals and I'm sure hens are no exception. I was wondering if the RSPCA might be able to help if there are no children's farms etc nearby. I think the RSPCA might have a "don't put to sleep" policy so perhaps that's worth thinking about.I am sorry I can't be of more help - I'm too far away - but I am sending positive thoughts. Take care. Allison x :)

If you could do this for a few days and then re-introduce her it may work - and at least you really will have tried everything then. It may be just enough to stop the bullying.

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear that you have a bully in your flock :-(

have you found a new home for her? If not, I can give you the details of a farm in Surrey (Claygate) where I go and get my feed - they have a large flock of free range chickens there and might take her.

let me know if you want me to pm you their contact details.

xx

Thank you all for your advice and hugs etc .....

I am pleased to say Peebles has a new home with one of my vets other clients he will be collecting her from the vet at 4 o clock . My vet says these girls will be able to keep her in line so am just soo pleased that I was able to find her a new home .

I have given the vet a letter to pass on to her new owner telling him that she has been wormed etc and to give me a call to let me know how she gets on.

hopefully she will behave herself I am sad to see her go but I couldn't do anymore with her she was too strong willed for my girls .

Thank you all again for all your advice and support I couldn't live without this forum the info on here has been invaluable :D

Regards Mel

I am so happy to have been able to rehome her so quickly I rang the vet on the offchance and am so pleased I did . I hope she settles in ok  ,

was in such a state yesterday about the whole thing but was very determined to get her rehomed today as she started again this morning !!

My other 2 seem a bit more relaxed now so am keeping my fingers crossed they don't carry on where she left off :anxious:

is there anything else I can add to their feed to help with the regrowth ( already have Tuna and Poultry spice) as it is getting colder now and am worried about them getting chilly in their neither regions
