Egluntyne
Can't bear the thought of snotty hankies festering away in a pocket. The Light of My Life will use nothing else. They are positively minging at times. He thinks he is using the same ones that he has had for years, but when they are too gruesome, I replace them with identical new ones which cost 50p each from a man on the merket on The Moor in Sheffield. I try to be as green as poss, but hankies and recycled loo paper, which is never up to the job so to speak are my weak spots.
AnnieP
I try to be as green as poss, but hankies and recycled loo paper, which is never up to the job so to speak are my weak spots. eh? I use Nouvelle. Its fine..... er... I think! You've got me worried now! Talkiing of loo roll, had a hilarious drunken discussion with friends a while back about loo roll and how many sheets you use. I have never thought about it before, but their loo keeps getting blocked as he pulls off about 8 sheets every time and only uses them for one wipe, so to speak, before getting another wad. I then thought about what I do: You just pull off the right amount automatically, right? Well, I pull off 4 sheets, OH uses 5 and my friend (female) only uses 3! My new resolution has been to only use 3 ever since! Come on all, own up! How many sheets??
The Dogmother
Rosie uses half the roll
Egluntyne
Had a (or is it "an") hysterical conversation re loo paper with my nephew who is a student here in Sheffield. He shares a house with 2 girls and 2 other boys. "Auntie Eg, can I ask a question? "Yep, fire away" " What exactly do girls do with loo paper? The female housemates go into the bathroom and come out with yards and yards of the stuff, and go into their bedrooms, mainly at night time" " What do you think they might be doing?" "Don't know, me and the lads have have nursed many a pint ruminating on this very subject." "Have you asked the girls?" "Good Lord No! Terrified of what the answer might be!" " They use it to remove their eye make up, you herbert!" " Thank God for that. We all thought it was for something hideous and gynaecological! We can all sleep in peace now!" ubereglu
My Dad still uses hankechieves, and expects them all to be ironed. Then he shoves them in his pocket and makes them all creased!
Lesley
I use half a roll as well Clare I was using Nouvelle and they are fine but now use Cotton Soft as the cotton is a renewable source. I don't feel as guilty using kitchen paper now - just try to use less.
The Dogmother
I've used Nouvelle in the past, but with the work going on at Tesco, they seem to have disappeared from the shelves. Might try the cotton ones instead if I can find them.
Eyren
Is your Tesco expanding its warehouse, as ours is, or just having a refurb? I tried the Cotton Soft tissues and ended up renaming them Kitten Soft. because they looked all soft and fluffy but were really quite scratchy when you got close up I use Nouvelle in the loo and it's fine, but I really ought to cut down on my tissue usage, which is far too high I do try to buy recycled kitchen paper, though, and I put it in the compost bucket if it just has some grease or other food detritus on it One bad habit at a time - it's the only realistic way to make permanent changes to your lifestyle... The Dogmother
They are completely redeveloping it - adding an upstairs with travellators, which will stock homewares and electrical goods. At the moment most of the stock is in giant tents in the car park, and the rest has just disappeared. Due to open in January and twice the size it was. Eyren
Wow! Our Waitrose was expanded earlier this year, but it's the other side of Cambridge from us which means extra food miles if we drive there - pity, as they have a special section for locally-grown veg, as well as all their usual great stuff! The Dogmother
That sounds great. I wish there was a Waitrose here, but the nearest one is 20 miles away, although they do deliver in this area. I try to get as much as I can at farmers' markets and local shops at the weekend if I am around, but am tied to a supermarket the rest of the time because I can only get the ex to babysit for half an hour while I go shopping one evening and the local shops are closed when I finish work in the evening
ubereglu
Claret, your Tesco's sounds like the Tesco Extra in Yeovil. They've finished it now and it has an upstairs full of other shops, and the ground floor is huge. Seriously you could get completely lost in there! The Dogmother
That sounds like what they are planning here. I think that they've lost a lot of customers because of the general mayhem and lack of stock. It now takes me half as long again to do my shopping 'cos all the stuff has moved
Mrs Frugal
They're doing up the Tescos we went to in Peterborough and we're so fed up with it that we've stopped going there and shop at Somerfield in town instead. The downside and something which makes me soooooo angry is that hardly any of the Somerfield packaging is recyclable! We're about to get chipped wheelie bins which will be weighed to see how much you throw away and how much you recycle so I'm even more conscious about recycling than ever and it's so frustrating that you can't get a carton of orange juice or a tub of cream that can't be recycled . Makes Tesco look good as the majority of their packaging can!
The Dogmother
Our Somerfield is total pants - it's grubby and stocks really nasty looking food
Mrs Frugal
Ours is nice and clean with a reasonable range and compared to the mess at Tescos, it's miles better! We get most stuff from the local health food shop, the weekly market, the milkman and the butchers so only use Somerfield for absolute basics like flour, sugar etc - good job really . Eyren
We're about to get chipped wheelie bins which will be weighed to see how much you throw away and how much you recycle... Sounds like they're desperately trying to compete with South Cambs, who like to boast that they (i.e. we!) recycle 51% of household waste
