MedusA
After the snow ( ) earlier in the week, it was pouring with rain and blowing a gale here all night, but looks a bit quieter out there now. I'm mustering up the courage to go and deal with the girls. Must get some thermals and some logs for the fire, if this is a sign of things to come. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! abwsco
We've got another lovely dry day here agin today although it's not as sunny as yesterday We're out covering the sides of the chicken run to try and make sure it's reasonably waterproof for the rain that's bound to arrive again though. Can't wear my sheepskin boots though so even with thermal socks on my feet are freezing in my wellies.

Old Speckled Hen
Crystal-clear sunny day here. Hills look wonderful. Some cloud building up so might be a beautiful sunset. Got home from weekend in York at 2pm and let chooks out. Boy were they peased to be out!
Valkyrie
Did see a glimpse of blue sky this evening but not enough to last for a bit of sun, sadly. The girls wanted their tea at 3 today because it was so dark.
chelsea
Spent the whole day in Cornwall, fab. The sun was out on the south coast (mevagissey), went for stroll on the beach, paddled (bare foot!), did some rockpooling, the dog had a whale of a time. Flask of tea and doughnuts and then off to the north coast. Perranporth, a quick cornish pasty snack and then nice afternoon on the beach (free parking aswell - a rarity for Cornwall ). Drive home and stop off for pub meal and beer on the way home. Perfick. brought home a box of pasties too

Hi When we built the Henian Castle we covered 3 / 4 of the run in opaque pvc which has a built in mess. It keeps the wind and rain out but allows the light in. The run has a corrugated roof which at the moment allows fresh air in we had thought of covering this to stop the cold air but we think we might leave it for now. Helly Welly
Sunny here at the mo, although it's supposed to be grey. Chickens haven't fussed about the weather at all. We keep them in when it's raining, they have a 12 foot by 12 foot run with a sheets of wibbly wobbly plastic, (you can guess i don't know the name for it!!), so they are perfectly snug. The wind tends to come from the side that is next to the beech hedge so they really couldn't be better off. We've got thick curtains up at the front and back doors to try and stop draughts, although having a cat flap really doesn't help matters. I got some sheepskin mittens today for when i'm on my mobility scooter as it's so much colder sitting still than walking. Got really bad raynauds last week when it was so cold, my thumbs were screaming in pain for hours. Still, i would rather it was cold and frosty than grey and miserable. Egluntyne
Went on the train to Leicester yesterday. The countryside looked very Novemberish and brown, with fog in most places. Still quite beautiful though, in its own way.
Cinnamon
Its a real pain dressing to shop at the moment,as its pretty chilly outside, but warm inside & of course you get warm walking about too. Then it might rain,so you need a rain jacket. I sem to start off looking like the Michellen man & end up in a t shirt
Helly Welly
Shops have always got their heating on far too high at this time of year. They seem to forget that customers are all wrapped up for the cold outside. Grey and miserable here again
Ardene5
Hi Everyone, Well what a great night on the 5th November got the hens settled down nice and early. Got the dogs walked in the afternoon and a run on the beach as well. A bit overcast but no rain. We got some fire work for our disabled young son and the family watch them as I set them of in our front garden. Our dogs were inside with the TV on load to kill the sound of the noise from the noise from all the load bangs. We had a few bangs but nothing compared to some of the others down the road. I started with a rocket and finished with a rocket, got from the family as a thank you and everyone was very happy . Made me feel great. The weather here this morning is overcast ( time 6.49 a.m). Still a bit dark here in Preesall near Blackpool. We hope everyone had a nice and safety bonfire night also everyone enjoyed it. Helly Welly
Too miserable here for outdoor fireworks, so we had indoor fireworks, the same ones that were around in the 80's. We always had them as i child and i was chuffed to get some. DD thought they were hilarious, we all really enjoyed them. Weather today is grey, drizzly and miserable, just for a change
Valkyrie
Where did you manage to get your indoor fireworks from, Helly Welly? I've looked for ages but not seen them since the children were small - it's great fun at Christmas.
Helly Welly
I got them from http://www.fireworksarcade.com I got the basic pack, plus a pack of three ice fountains which were like jets crossed with sparklers. Delivery was dead quick and they were reasonably priced. I think it's going to become a family tradition

Valkyrie
Yes it is crazy - I can see lots of children ending up with painful chilblains. Firework link - verrry interesting, especially the demo of the ice fountains!!!! Weather here today, dull, damp, little drizzle but not a lot, one sudden downpour of heavy rain and a glimpse of some blue sky and the sun tried very hard to shine - blink and you missed it! Ardene5
Hi After heavy over night rain we have sun and blue skies but it feels cool and fresh. So for anyone around the Blackpool / Preesall area doing a bonfire tonight the wood will be damp and therefore smokey. Could be showery and windy for the next few days. Can some explain the reference to no school scarf please, thank you. Are all school children going to wear balaclavas? Valkyrie
'Elf 'n Safety innit. Someone might get strangled, or heaven forbid someone plays horsey with it and trip over. Same as gloves sewn onto coats, or gloves on string inside the coat sleeves in an effort to not lose the child's clothing. They should really start with the pointy things, like knives. Sunny here - off to let the girls have a dustbath now while I clean out the Cube - I hear rain due for the weekend, so need to do it while I can.
