Christian
Sounds nice. More fruit is soaking in brandy for a couple more cakes and puddings. The house smells lovely. Got a new book called 'The Christmas Book' for a greener Christmas, lots of recycled items and ideas Plan to get the sewing machine out and make some decorations this year. Have made a few tags already Just wish it would stop raining Rain isn't festive.

Ooo, I looked at that book and really wanted it, but unfortunately can't afford it and the library didn't have a copy either. I want to see some piccies of the things you make from it though! freddie
My DD has a pink feather tree(only small) which she does up with fancy beads etc!! Reluctantly, I have to say it looks really pretty
poachedegg
She intends to dress it with pink baubles. Very girly. We also bought a smaller one about 4 or 5ft for the kitchen and that is sparkley white which we dress with pink, and though it sounds quite naff, it does look quite funky! Valkyrie
Oh thank goodness Buffy started this, now I don't have to do Ch mas any more! DD and DS have mini CHRISTMAS trees from Hobbycraft from a couple of years ago. They have tiny cat baubles to hang on them along with sparkly pipe cleaners for tinsel, and some tiny fluffy balls in CHRISTMAS colours that I threaded on cotton for extra decorations. Our old fogeys have got a digital photo frame that we will put on some nice photos for them to look at - the ones when DD and DS were cute! If we can find them, some funny ones of my dad for mum. DD is getting a new battery for her mobile phone and I will go into Topshop and Topman for clothes vouchers for both of them, which is apparently the "cool" place to go nowadays. We have got them snowmen and Santa mugs from John Lewis on Saturday (then did a double take on the price this morning - what were we thinking? £12 for a mug, outrageous! ). Guest
I bought 4 cushion covers for £2 from a charity stall on Saturday - they are cream fabric with holly sprigs. I don't want them on my cushions but that was a good lot of xmassy fabric for £2 - I have a few things I want to make out of them. Although where the time is coming from I don't know! Guest
We are NOT getting the trees out this year. Just the little fibre optic ones. As we are going to be away for 2 weeks it'll be such a hassle getting everything down and put away when we have just flown back and have to get back to school a couple of days later (did somone just say HUMBUG?). The house sitter will just have to be happy with what she gets! I will have the "tasteful" outdoor lights on though - timed to stay on whilst we are away (I might as well have them on as I never took them down last year!!!) Seagazer
Should I make a confession that I have about 6 artificial trees in my loft We don't use them all. We have a really, really big one that OH insisted we bought. It takes up the whole of the bay window and half the floor as well. Once you add the presents under the tree there is no room. Sometimes I let him use it! We have the normal sized one that we've used for the last few years. Then there are the smaller (about 4 ft) ones that I use in the hallway and the dining room. Theres a thin one, a white one, ones with lights already attached. I'm actually going to get a real one this year for the dining room. I haven't had a real one for years as my darling cat Molly (RIP) used to wee in the pot I bought some lovely christmas decorations when we were in Copenhagen in September which I think will look so much nicer on a real tree. Lovely. If you have fake trees - how many do you have? Do you have a mix of real or artificial? Am I alone in my collection of trees? Actually I should also admit to having about 9 big plastic toy boxes of Christmas decorations as well. I don't use all of these but I like to collect different colour themes to chop and change. chickencam
Last year we had a real tree in a stand that held water and my cats both drank from it even when it was really mouldy We bought some lovely bright white and coloured LED lights from B&Q the other day for our tree. We will choose a real one, but don't know whether to put it up or leave it in the garden until Christmas Eve because we are away the weekend before Christmas this year. MedusA
Just bumping this up as could do with a bit of a festive feeling today. You either read my mind or my reply on another thread, Buffie! Got a new book called 'The Christmas Book' for a greener Christmas, lots of recycled items and ideas Oooh! I'd be very interested to know who it's by so I can take a look. Sounds like just the book for me!

Was reading it in the car this evening, whilst waiting for DD's ballet class to finish. Sha x This book was recommended. Ah, had a look at this in book shop and decided not to buy it as it was so basic. "Christmas tree in a pot" is one suggestion. Sheherazade is married to Zac, son of the late James and Annabel Blimey, that brings back a few memories.
Chook n Boo Mum
I got it in a Wyevale, at full price , when DS was starting to moan about being in the shop tooooooo long on his way home from school! Sometimes basic is good, I think I could give it to the children & if they were feeling compliant , they could follow the instructions with very little help from me! And I'm a sucker for a Christmas book....... Sha x
buffie
Well we're nearly finished with the shopping. Fake tree here but we do love it's shape and love the victorian style decoration, ribbons etc (ok may not be victorian but I know what I mean ) We're going to get a real British tree for the deck . Our deck is a good size so will be nice for work and nice to view from the kitchen Shopping with my parents on Monday to get them their last bits and enjoy a bit a time with just the three of us. It's our tradition. I feel warm and festive now, thanks everyone Buffie x

Not done any pressie shopping though . We had a real tree last year, first time for manyyears...I LOVE the smell, so hope to persuade OH & MIL to have another one this year. Not feeling very christmassy yet
crazygal
I have ordered our turkey- it is coming from Kelly's on the 23rd December. I have refused to tell my parents how much its costing Funny that now I've sorted the turkey I feel like Christmas itself is sorted. I am going to have a big shock coming that's for sure. Never mind, I tend to be more productive under pressure- I'm the one gaily making mince pies on Christmas Eve saying oh there's plenty of time.....! MInd you, one thing I do insist on is having Christmas lights on the house indecently early (not before December I hasten to add- but the 1st of December's not too early is it??). I put clear lights on the outside, and coloured fairy lights on the inside on every window. I just LOVE Christmas lights!!!
