little chickadee
I've noticed that a lot of us are planning to give away homemade goodies for Christmas this year and lots of people mention "hampers" . Any nice baskets I've seen cost more than buying a Christmas gift What do you use to put your "hamper" goodies in? I suppose I could cover cardboard boxes in wrapping paper but thought there might be another cost effective option.

Olly
Last year I bought BHWT bags and put mine in - but they were only small presents, not a proper hamper.

Mrs Frugal
I bought some of the Ikea cardboard boxes a few months ago and must go back for more because judging by Poet's links, there are some really nice ones available now which I missed when we went to Ikea recently! Aaargh!! The little bags are gorgeous too. Oh dear, I feel a hole in my savings coming on .

Christian
This year I am going for jams and jellies, Chilli oil, soaps, lavender bags, bath melts, mince pies, peanut brittle, Christmas pudding and cake, rhubarb vodka, sloe gin, raspberry vodka and a few jars of fruits steeped in booze. Will also be borrowing a few ideas from Nigella's Christmas book too. The chutneys look good, as does the chilli jelly Need to get the baskets now. That is always the hard part. There is a good shop in Hungerford and for those that know it, Longacres garden centre on the A30 does some cheap baskets too.
Cinnamon
I forgot to add Chilli Jam - I make it every year & its really popular with everyone. Its like a relish,or you can throw it into stews & stir frys too - brilliant stuff!

Christian that's quite a haul! Your friends are very lucky! I was in Home Bargain today and they had lovely wicker baskets with lids for £2.50 that you could get a few jars in. They had smaller and bigger ones too. They also had boxes covered in bright stripey silk material. My camera was charging at home or I would have taken pictures!
