Glasses chat

The basket of goodies sounds nice, in exchange for my week I got experience and decided I want to do optometry...but when I get a new pair of glasses they will do me thinned lenses at no extra cost though-my sight averages at +7.5, hence the lenses are rather thick, especially in the middle due to my long sightedness. Also have the offer of a free contact lens trial-not sure about this though...I'm happy with my glasses!

After I had finished my finished my work expeience, I got a massive box of organic chocolate!! yay!! :D

Definatley go for the contact lenses - i wasn't sure at first, but once you get over that worry, they are brilliant!! You will find that you look really different for a few days, but its great! I love my contact lenses. I haven't been able to wear mine for a couple of weeks, though due to an eye infection (not caused by the lenses!) :D:roll::dance:

I might do, but not at the minute-it's just the whole poking myself in the eye issue. However I did get to try them last week and it was weird-not entirely good though as they weren't quite the right prescription-a bit too powerful-so everything was still slightly blurry. Am off to choose new glasses later!

Well we eventually chose I nice purpley pink pair! Really like them and they only cost £12.50!!! As Ben was very nice and said I could have the frame for half price and then my voucher covers lenses-but they're happily covering the cost of thinning!

Very pleased-probably get them next week and then will post up a picture!

I tried contacts but didn't get on with them. They were the ones designed for people with astigmatisms but they made my eyeballs red. Not great as I wanted them to wear on special occasions / nights out and red eyes aren't a great look!

I may give them another go in the future though. They may design something that I can use more easily

Which company makes them? They're really nice-I'm just jealous as I have to have a frame all the way around my lenses because of my prescription. Oh well.

I think work experience definitely paid off though-as I'm having half price frames and thinned lenses for no extra cost other than the sight voucher I get. Will post up a picture of me in them when I get them!

Wow fantastic glasses.

I have a nightmare with glasses and normally wear lenses. I started wearing glasses when I was 17 and they were awful ......as soon as I started work and could afford it I tried lenses and haven't looked back- I used to do a lot of sport ( I still do a bit) and it saved having glasses bouncing up and down on my nose. I have to have 2 days a week off from wearing lenses and wear glasses then. I have to have teen sized or petite frames so I never get much choice. I have one pair with pale purple frames and the same frame but in bronze.

can i just say to all the contact lens wearers, get a pair of spex just in case you need them!!! i work at an opticians and the amount of cl wearers who dont have a spare pair of current prescription lenses is unreal.

there are plenty of nice fashionable frames and lots of options for thinned down lenses at reasonable prices.

people come in with infections and your eyes do need a break from time to time.

if you are concious about the thickness of your spec lenses, choose a cheaper frame a nd pay a bit more for a thinner lens. a decent optician should give you the info you need and not try to over sell you.

if you go for your cl check up, your optician may just say, sorry you need to stop wearing your lenses for a while.

pardon the pun, but we see it all the time.

im just getting off my little soapbox.

I wore contacts for 15 years ( & always had a spare pair of glasses). About 5 years ago I had real trouble getting the lenses in , & blamed it on being pregnant, & I haven't worn my lenses since, & I do really miss them.

I have thyroid eye disease with double vision, presumably pregnancy was the start of this, with an underactive thyroid gland whicih is quite unusual, & I am resigned to wearing glasses for the rest of my life. At least I can see clearly, & have access to opticians & doctors free of charge (mostly) in this country.

The thing is, i have monthly contact lenses, and they just seem to get really dirty over night! I seem to spend a lot of time cleaning them, otherwise they just irritate my eye! :wall: Oh well!

Really nice glasses by the way!!

I had the same problem when I changed from the focus monthlies I was wearing to lenses made from the new material that allows 98% of the oxygen through the lens to your eye (so is much better than the old ones). I had to change to wearing daily lenses. Even these can get very dirty if I, for example, fall asleep wearing them [in front of the TV usually] or don't really wash my face well and ensure all the 'sleep' is cleaned from my eyes before putting in the lenses, or sometimes, just putting make up on seems to result in them getting really dirty. At least now I can change the dirty one for a new one rather than spending ages cleaning the dirty lens. I used to find I would clean the lens, put it back in, it would seem OK for half an hour and then would need cleaning again. It must be something to do with this new material, because I had no such problems with the old material. Another thing I noticed is that, since changing to the new material, chopping onions once again stings my eyes...for years I have not experienced that as, I guess, the lenses stopped the onion vapour getting to my eyes!
