Good job they didn't have any chicken stockings BUT I will be putting some tinsel on the coop roof and maybe some lights or do you think that's toooooo much? Egluntyne
Not at all. Seems like a perfectly reasonable idea to me. Did you know that you can get solar powered fairly lights?
Cinnamon
You can indeed, but mine have all worn out now. Maybe I should have just saved them for Christmas rather than trying to make my garden look like a Grotto 12 months of the year

cordelia
...I've found a site...but cant decide which colour !!! http://www.lights4fun.co.uk/outdoor/garden-lights/4syy.asp?source=adwords&gclid=CIPdnIOG3pYCFQVMtAodPWJ42A I wil now have to ponder which colour will look best with a green eglu, and a Larch (leafless tree in Winter)...I'd best put them in the tree, in case they try to peck them... You might need to consider that too with the tinsel..DA... editied to rectify poor typing
Tessa the Duchess
As I recall, last year we had a few competitions at Christmas. One of them was 'Who has the best Christmas decorations on their run" Maybe we could have the same thing this year? Tessa

alih
Mine had stockings last year - I found some as long as my hand and just big enough to cram loads of baby sweetcorn into - we hung them on the eggport door handle and the kids were soooo excited to see santa hadn't forgotten them. The chickens just fed their faces!!

helenmb
I bought some really good solar lights from the Gardeners' World Live event this summer from the Fine Lighting Company. However, after we got back we found that they supply to B&Q. There were really good as you can turn them off easily (unlike a lot of solar products) and get them to charge up for a few days in the winter when there is little sun for when you want to impress your guests etc. Last year I bought my girls a 6 month Mealworm subscription from **here** they of course loved this. Oooh, just added this as the Dust Bath / Feeder Shelter is lovely from FlytesoFancyFlytesoFancy Edited November 6, 2008 by Guest

Lydia
Last year ours all had individually wrapped presents in Christmas wrapping paper (minus the sellotape - we thought that would be too difficult for beaks ) and they had terrific fun tearing them open and eating the sweetcorn/mealworm/raisin combo inside They also have "Boxing Day Mash" which is basically all the veggie peelings and other hen friendly titbits boiled up and mashed. By the time it's all boiled up together it looks less than appetising but they love it.
Tessa the Duchess
Last year on Christmas Eve when they had all gone to bed, I hung up three little seed bells for them to find when they woke up on Christmas morning, by lunchtime Christmas day they had demolished the lot Tessa
