Lindy Loo
Not content with my ever increasing number of chooks, i rather fancy getting a couple of "weaners" - probably Gloucestershire Old Spots, but have never kept pigs before. Is there anyone out there that can give me any advice on pig keeping and/or the title of any good reference books on the subjuct. I have got as far as checking out the various brreds, formal restrictions and forms to be filled out etc. All sounds a bit of a palava but does it sound worse than it really is? I think my major task is to persuade the man next door but one to let me rent his "orchard" (really a rough paddock with a few neglected apple trees ). The neighbour next door but one on the other side grazes his sheep on it in the spring so maybe that task isn't as great as I think! Any advice would be welcome! AnnieP
Heck! Lesley's your girl!: Just take a look at her "The good life" thread in the Nesting box. Get to about page ermm.... 60? Maybe someone will be able to give more pinpoint accuracy where when pigs first started to get discussed. I know Lesley had them by page 63! Lesley
Sorry - so busy that I missed this I noticed a really useful guide in River Cottage last night - I'll put a link for you. Look here I didn't like the taste of GOS meat that we bought once so we have 3 Oxford Sandy and Blacks and 2 Berkshires. Our first three are booked in at the abattoir for the first week in September
