Over the last few weeks I have noticed that the nesting box is very dirty with quite abit of pooh in, I change the straw most mornings and fluff up their 'sheets'! Last night, armed with torch, I went to shut them in for the night, shining the torch into the cube to check everyone was tucked up and safe but could only see two, Potter and Pippax! I checked the nesting box and 4 ladies were literally 'stuffed' in side by side, these are big fat fluffy hens! They looking very happy and were co ing gently! So everyone seemed happy! If they are happy, I am happy.

It is crazy, but they are a delight and make me laugh every day. How could anyone lose interest after 1 week! Much more entertaining than most people!

My 3 have beaten me and now sleep in the nest box. When I go down to shut them in, I open the nest box door to say goodnight - usually I get an answer from two of them, but Bunty always grabs a bit of nesting material and throws it on her back as if to hide herself - I think she's trying to say "you can't see me!"

My lot (six ) all squash in the nestbox as well, which makes it hard to count beaks before I close the door and they whinge if the torch shines in their eyes. There used to be four of them all in a row and two on the roosting bars, but now it's got cold they all pile in .

 

At weekends when I am around for bedtime, Joy is always last up the ladder and always pops her head out again to say goodnight before the door is shut (aaww, cute ). I told my dad and he reckons she was a cuckoo in a clock in a former life

there's nothing nicer than warming your hands up in a pile of toasty warm snoozy chooks! the amount of heat they give off is just amazing **wanders off to see if can possibly run central heating off cube??**

Yes I've told mine I'm turning them into a pair of gloves if they don't lay.

 

They chew at me every night when I feel under their lovely warm feathers to check for the egg they are not going to lay until Spring. I love that sound of the girls complaining.
