I just hope "Ooops, word censored!"ody in that' vets waiting room comments on it being only a hen, I'll not be responsible for my actions! I'm hoping there may be some last minute cure, but that is my heart talking, my head syas that this is it. chickenanne
Oh, mostin, poor you! It's so sad to lose any pet; but it certainly doesn't help when it's a bit long and drawn out. I imagine everyone at the vet knows what it's like to lose a pet, so am sure noone will make crass comments.
Daphne
gosh, been there and I know how dreadful it is. Remember you are doing it for your girl so she doesn't suffer anymore. Vets are very compassionate. Cry all you want. We'll all be thinking of you. xx
laurmurf
Oh Elaine, my heart breaks for you! You are the most wonderful chicken-mum to your girls and whatever you do for them is the best. You have been supporting Prissy throughout her ordeal and in the best possible and most compassionate way, and sometimes even the hard decision is the best possible way too. I will be praying for a hen-miracle for you but if it doesn't turn out like that, then you know we understand and send you our best love. You cry all you want to, darling. mostin
I'm afraid it didn't go well. She's at peace now. It took me a while to get home as it's not safe to drive when you can't see. They were so lovely at the vets, "Ooops, word censored!"ody laughed at me for sobbing over a chicken. I don't know if there was something else wrong as well or if her moult had just taken it out of her. The vet couldn't find anything obviously wrong with her. There was nothing left of her, she was just skin and bone. I don't even know her true age as she was adopted. She was my Top Girl and she will be soorly missed, she is top left on my christmas avatar. Her eggs were the tastiest and could always be told apart from the other girls. She was such a character, my mum's been on the phone crying and my OH is trying to hold it together in a business meeting. These little girls just really get into your heart don't they? I can't believe there'll only be three girls in my eglu tonight.
The Dogmother
That's so very sad Mostin, my thoughts are with you. For small critters, they really do occupy a big space in our hearts, don't they? A big hug when I see you next year.

mostin
Thank you all so much, kind words from people who understand mean so much right now. At least my other 3 girls all seem well and happy. I spent lots of time with them this afternoon, watching them play in the fallen leaves, it cheered me up a bit. I can't imagine how upsetting it is. I would be exactly the same if one of ours went. Hope Shaun comes home soon to look after you, I guess he is upset too. alih
very sorry to hear your news - and no shae in sobbing at the vet's - I did the same when my chook was put to sleep and they were lovely. It's awful having that gap isn't it - but she was so well loved and cared for and couldn't have asked for more. Chin up.
