itchy skin

Recommended Posts

my eczema is driving me mad so tonight I tried using oats in my bath, I read it somewhere, I put some oats into a pop sock & hung it under the running tap, and then squeezed all the goo out to use a soap, it worked really well, I wont be using anything else for the time being, I'm a lot less itchy

I use Oilatum Oil in the bath for my ichthyosis, it really helps.

This is the first time I've met anyone else with this problem! - my daughter has had it since she was three months old!. She is in her thirties now and has it mostly under control....with the help of a lot of moisturiser and infrequent swimming trips, although she would love to swim more.

Adam, my son is having a flare up at the moment to, he always seems to flare when he is poorly. As well as oats i add a drop of lavender and a drop of roman chamomile to his bath, the chamomile is soothing and helps itchies. I've also found Dream Wash and Dream Cream from Lush help him.

Oats are great, as you say, plus the lavender which dancing cloud suggests. I've used this combination in the past to help with my psoriasis and it really soothed my skin....makes a mess of the bath though!;)

by putting the oats into a pop sock I didn't have any mess in the bath, my skin is feeling much better, I have had to use some steroid cream but no where near as much as I normally would with a flare up - i'll let the moms at work know about the oat bath we have lots of very little ones with dry skin probs

I have eczema on my hands which has flared up :( I think it wasn't helped by trying to make a holly wreath and my fingers getting really pricked. I get dry skin all over which is under control for the most part with a body lotion, but as soon as the season changes, it gets sore and I have to try and find another body lotion as the first one no longer works  I have tried Aveeno which is an oat based moisteriser and really liked the lavender fragranced one but my Boots no longer sell it, so I might get some of the un-fragranced one. Looks like I'll be off to the docs to get some more Betnovate though.

I just came on to see if this remedy would work for chicken pox - great! I'll try it tonight for Dan - he has it really badly :( Matthew had it the other week and it never bothered him, but poor Dan is really suffering. :? This is his first day of full on spots though so I am hoping they will start to ease by christmas day.

Edited to add: well I don't know if it worked too well, but it kept him quiet for half an hour squeezing the gloop out of the pop sock and smoothing it onto his spots! He found it quite amusing to be having a bath in porridge
