a question about feeding different foods to hens

I have just got another refresher kit for my eglu and got the plastic roosting bars - has anyone else tried them and are they any good? I am hoping they will last longer than the wooden ones (I am on my 3rd set) and will be easier to clean - I just wondered if anyone had tried them out yet?

I have them in both cubes and one of the eglus. They are a million times better than the wooden ones. They are asy to clean and even when the poo does dry on them, it soon comes off with a bit of a soak.

I've only ever known the plastic bars, being quite new to this eglu business. I have to say they are a doddle to keep clean though. A scrubbing brush and hose pipe and they come up as new. If the poop is dried on, just soak them as Janty says for a few minutes or use warm water.

Yes, the plastic bars are brilliant, a great improvement. Sadly, they aren't made for the mark 1, but I love the ones in my Cube.

I would never go back to the wooden ones. The plastic bars are fab , quick and easy to clean, and most important of all, no hiding places for red mites .

There is only one drawback to plastic roosting bars - they make you lazy! You know the "I should really clean out the Cube/Eglu but it is raining...ah, the plastic bars will last another day or two!" I know I am not the only one as I remember this coming up on a previous thread.

The plastic ones are great! And your chooks can't rip thir toes off like one of mine did when a wooden one split

Thanks everyone - I think I will become a convert - I guess as well that they dry more quicklya s they don't absorb water like the wooden ones. The eglu is due for a 'shortest day' clean and move tomorrow so I will put them in then. Thanks for all the replies.

I had a pair for Christmas from my OH I only put them in yesterday but am sure they will be great

They would be better if they were solid on the back. I haven't known wooden ones.

Plastic bars are so much better than the wooden bars, but I agree with the last post, why did they not make the bars solid . Now there are places for mites to hide in
