Ardene5
Hi Everyone I wrote.......There is an old old saying you pays your money and takes your choice, everyone will have there own choice on this one. I say they are all good as it makes you think of others at this time of the year. So no more I like it better than and lets think of other else fortunate that your selves especially around this time of year. Everyone has there own choice and friendly banter is OK but some times what is written come over as more than just banter. Sorry if I saw more than you wrote. I like all of them because each one has a different slant on the song. Best regards Ian
clootie
It's got to be Leonard Cohen for me like Olly and a few others. I too saw him a couple of weeks ago - fantastic!. Another pretty good version is KD Lang - anyone heard that if not utube it . Haven't heard KD Lang's version and I like her voice - thanks Ms Marple, I'll check it out. Phonix
I am sick of hearing it. Same here Egluntine. Mum & I were in the car today and the song came on the radio about 5 times in the space of 3 hours I haven't heard it since she won lol! I must live in a bubble! xXx

Seagazer
Well I did like Alexandra's version until one night my husband had had a glass or two of vino, I went to bed and left him with sky+ and I swear he watched her sing it 5 times in a row. I ended up going down and shouting at him. I made him delete it off sky now
Paola
In my rush to buy it on iTunes, I brought the wrong one
chickenanne
I'm a bit pathetic - I almost always like whichever version I hear first the most. So....I still find the X-factor version AWFUL . Though haven't heard it that much.
Ardene5
Hi Everyone Do you know that Simon Cowle Has the rights to all 3 songs which are in the charts. Best regards Ian

Best regards Ian I hate him but I can't deny his business accumen I guess. I wonder who sold it for Cohen and was it whilst he was in the monastry? Lydia
Hi EveryoneDo you know that Simon Cowle Has the rights to all 3 songs which are in the charts. Best regards Ian Not true actually (although it was reported in the Daily Mail so who knows..... ). Simon Cowell's company (Syco) have the master rights to Alexandra's rather souless version. Sony (via Columbia so not Sony BMG and nowt to do with Mr C) have the master rights to both Leonard Cohen's and Jeff Buckley's excellent versions. However, Sony ATV Music Canada (so also not Sony BMG or Cowell) control the publishing rights to the actual song (i.e. LC's songwriting rights of which he still gets a part). So Mr C only owns the X Factor rights. Clear as mud right?
The Dogmother
I grew up with the Cohen version, but it's a tad dirge-like for my tastes. I quite like the new one - today is the first time I've heard it and it's OK.
KAZAROO
It is such a haunting song & he sang it with such emotion. ) This along with Train drops of Jupiter- are to be played when we have our hand fasting next November!!!!
Faye&Ant
Both of my girls now have it on their play lists Mum, you're wrong. I don't have it on my playlist. Yes, sadly, I registered just to correct her. ha ha - Welcome to the forum Devon!! I will probably take it off my playlist as im sick of hearing the x factor version. I used to love the Jeff Buckley version so hopefully in a year or so it will be ok to play again
jlo
As someone else has said, it is a good job that we all have different tastes. I am afraid that I really don't like the Geoff Buckley version. I do quite like the new one although it is a bit uncool to admit that! iar fach goch
For the first time ever Cohen has allowed the song to be recorded in a different language (apparently!) and it has been recorded in Welsh by a group called Brigyn, released a few months back. Another alternative version, I'm sure it's on you tube if anyone's interested.
happychookie
I dont like the orginal
Janty
I like lots of the different versions as they have their own sound to them except the x-factor version. I'm sorry for those of you that like it but I think that the Smurfs doing lead vocals and backed by Pinky and Perky would sound better. Alexandra do-dah is plain awful. If she warbles any more, she'll do herself an injury. She's PANTS.....pants, pants, pants, pants, pants! Phew! Rant over. For those of you that haven't noiticed, I not really that fussed about the x-factor version.
MedusA
Whenever I hear this song, it reminds me of OH. He's always played and sang it since I've known him, so his is the version I prefer, With LC coming a close second.
chickenanne
AH, if everyone liked liqorice alsorts there'd be none left for me to eat.... But I can definitely say, as I am always right, Jefff Buckley version is the best one. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.
Seagazer
I've just heard the Jeff Buckley version this morning on Radio 2 and I'm afraid I prefer Alexandra's version!! I prefer the power of the music on hers if that makes any sense

alexgirl73
I don't understand all the hostility towards Alexandras version I think she sings it beautifully, and has a wonderful voice. LC and JB's versions make me want to throw myself off a roof they are sooooooo mournful and boring.
Rona
Just to add my two penn'orth to the debate. I like Alexandra's version but heard JB's on the radio yesterday and find it a bit of a dirge. Didn't know there were any other versions until I read this post but have just downloaded Il Divo's version - can't understand the words but like the sound They are also Simon Cowell's proteges so I guess perhaps it is one of his fav songs.
