the progress of our allotment...

Recommended Posts

Our allotment association are currently in discussion about what will be allowed on our site. In the meantime I've put one of the small Keter deck boxes on mine. My neighbour queried it and I just said it was staying until I was told otherwise. The worst they can do is ask me to remove it  At least I can keep my tools in there and it's strong enough to sit on and drink my coffee 8) I also have one of the larger boxes (same as Poets second pic) that will replace it if they ever decide that sheds are allowed

They do provide a lock up on site so the key to the gate also opens a large brick 'shed'. Within this each plot has a wire cage in which to keep tools and sundries and for which you provide your own padlock. So we do have somewhere to keep tools just nowhere to potter or get out of any sudden downpours. This is why I'm veering towards a polytunnel so I have somewhere to hide from the rain and wind!

These people who steal other people's stuff  make me so cross. You work hard at something just to have it ruiend by some person......urgghh

I agree.. we had our camping gas stove (with 2 rings & grill) pinched from our shed at the allotment. We think our shed was targeted because it was new and shiney looking so the thieves obviously thought we might have had expensive tools in there.

Well done Poet & Ian... cracking progress.

Looks as though you have done lots of hard work. I am getting in the planting mood so have registered for that free 30 day trail on that link you gave..... I wish i had an allotment. I have a big garden but it is mostly planted up. Would love a blank canvass like your allotment plot. Sue xx

You do need a gas stove for those reviving cups of tea we have got one of those flat ones with a single ring that runs off a small butane gas canister and a stove top camping kettle. We keep mugs tea bags and those little single serve cartons of longlife milk, in a tin in the shed and take bottles of water with us. We have been known to use water from the hosepipe too but it gets boiled well then.

that's all sorted :D We got one off freecycle ages ago but Ian also has some sort of portable power pack (which he bought for the camper van) basically you charge it up at home and take it wherever. He's used it at the lottie with his portable electric screwdriver but you can also plug a kettle into it. We've got a little travel kettle or we have the stove top type so all angles are covered

DH did a little video of our allotments yesterday which I thought you might like to see. They're all brand new as of January, some people have made lots of progress, some virtually no progress. Some of the plots are really small so we were lucky to get a decent size!

Ours is the very last one on the video. DH is getting paving flags off freecycle as and when and also using bits of broken flags he's dug up to make the paths.

He's tootled off to Aldi just now to see if there's any of those fruit canes left for the allotment :D

thanks guys! :D Can't wait to see your pics as and when.

Sue, I'd be too worried about losing them or not being able to catch them if I took them up there  Yes, one of our fellow allottmenteers has a few chickens. We're allowed up to 6 chickens on our allottment but we're not taking advantage of that at this point in time :D
