Christian
Hello you Crafty lot! OH's sister is getting married in July (end of) and has asked me to make the wedding favours She needs 40 for the girls (boys are sorted) and would like me to come up with some ideas. Edible or non, doesn't matter. Something 'nice and hand made' I was thinking fabric hearts filled with lavender, maybe 2 tied with 'rustic' string?? But thought I would ask on here for inspiration, as I am not really sure I think she wants something edible that you could also keep afterwards, i.e. the 'bag' Answer on a postcard to - Confused of Hampshire Haven't got a clue Lane Stumpsville...... Thanks!
bokbokbok
Hi Christian, I know you will receive loads of ideas - mine is in keeping with me being a photographer. I have seen these wee things being used for many reasons and hope there you might think of a use for them in the favours. They are Mini Cards by moo.com. I have seen them being used as place cards, thank you cards and even for putting out the web address of where the bride and groom are going to have their online gallery. You can make up 100 cards with as many as 100 designs or whatever combination you like for a tenner plus postage and if you leave space at one end they are easily hole-punched for ribbons to go through. If you have access to photos of the happy couple at any stage of their lives you can put these on one side and words on the other - or - just have words on both - the options are limitless Even if you don't use this idea for this reason - I could see you adding them in with your hampers next year Susan
AJuff
My daugher received a start to knit Usbourne book which has a very lovely pattern for knitted party bags which you could fill with sweets or a put in a bracelet. It also had a pattern for a knitted purse . . with chocolate coins or make up in?
Minnie the Moocher
* A bottle of bubbles each - everyone blows bubbles while the couple has their first dance * A scented candle in a voile bag tied with raffia and a sprig of lavender/rosemary/similar * An organza bag containing a white packet bearing the couple's name and containing some seeds (Love-in-a-Mist?) Janty
I bought solid card boxes to match my dress and the colour scheme. I bought co-ordinating thin ribbon to tie around the boxes and then I made two little rectangular card for each box. The top card said the person's name and acted as a place setting. The card underneath that had the menu that that person had chosen (everyone forgets). The two cards each had a hole punched through them and they were tied with the ribbon to the box. Inside each box were three Thornton's heart chocolates.
Guest
I LOVE the idea of giving some sort of seeds, what better metaphor for the start of a marriage, plus you might get people into the habit of growing fruit or veg if you make it something edible! Couperwife
what about something in a pot that they could water and would grow you know like the "grow hair" plants that grow grass but something a lot classier. ok, I dont really know cathy x
mostin
I know it's not hand made, but I had kinder eggs for mine which I hand wrapped in tissue paper of the wedding colours. Everyone had really good fun. The ladies seemed to enjoy the chocolate and the men were really silent for ages builing all the toys . I would always suggest involving chocolate in any fovours for ladies, and i am sure you are talented enough to handmake some.
Berkochicks
This isn't edible but my friend has a crystal/ Reiki shop/website and she does crystal wedding favours. Have a look at www.wishsticks.co.uk go into shop then Wishsticks weddings. Bit different I'm sure you could buy/make organza bags and bulk buy the crystals. If she is looking for a wedding creche, all the thing these days, I run one. Discount for chicken lovers! Donna
chelsea
going on from Poets pamper hamper theme, what about a mini hamper......scented petals, mini bath bomb, and some sweets/chocs all tied up in something nice?
surferdog
My eldest son gets married this year and they are on a very tight budget. Their favours are going to be shot glasses filled with brightly coloured jelly beans. You could use champagne flutes with pink smarties seeing as it's for the girls (Jordan eat your heart out.) Be careful with bubbles - friends went to a wedding recently where the wooden floor became lethal because of the amount of 'popped' bubbles landing on it. bronze
I had little paper bags with bulbs in. My mils still come up I know that! Just be aware of costs. £1 a favour soon adds up
bokbokbok
I've just had another thought - this may not be a good idea for your situation Christian but it brought tears to my eyes when I saw it. I photographed a wedding of a lovely couple a couple of years ago. He had lost his Dad to cancer the year before and every guest received a small scroll with a piece of ribbon round it. The scroll told them that instead of spending money on favours they had donated that amount of money to the cancer charity in the Dad's name. No one thought badly of the gesture! craftyhunnypie
Bubbles stain clothes too, especially satin! I like the idea of little scrolls - BHWT donation? Or if you could stretch to it chicken poop lipbalm. A couple of tealights? I think bulbs are a nice idea. Emma.x
Aunty e
I bought the special lovehearts you can get that say 'Just Married'. Then I argued for two days with my MiL about how we would present them. You could avoid that, and make little bags for them instead. The sweets are quite cheap, and if you bought organza (I can always find it for £1 a metre on the market), and made little draw string bags with some pretty ribbon, it wouldn't cost very much at all. hillfamily
and there was me thinking you had forgotten to mention something very important I would go with small cloth bags perhaps embroidered with the couples initials, filled with either homemade chocs or bath fizzes, tied with pretty ribbon. These are a couple of possibilities for ribbon http://www.coxandcox.co.uk/products/to-have-and-to-hold-ribbon/in/any-excuse-for-a-party or have one printed from these poeple http://www.creativeribbon.co.uk/

Will show her your ideas and see what she fancies and there was me thinking you had forgotten to mention something very important I am still waiting to be asked Pam
Cinnamon
Christian, I saw this in a magazine the other day & thought of you They sell the little galvanised buckets either empty for you to fill, or filled with packets of seeds, I think they are adorable. I seem to remeber some seeds for a flower called Wedding Bells too http://www.wildflower-favours.co.uk/

A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I'm sure whatever you make will have the WOW factor as usual Christian! I love Minnie the Moocher's idea of seeds too. What about a little scroll with something explaining the symbolism of the stuff in the bag in terms of wishing the relationship well? seeds for growth tea candle for light bubbles for fun a chocolate to feed each other's hearts or somesuch? oniondog
A friend of mine's mum gave out little olive-tree seedlings at her wedding, with labels explaining about the tree, where to plant it and telling you about its symbolism etc. Mine is now a healthy two feet tall, and I do think of her when I see it! She is Greek, hence choosing the olive tree. Perhaps not everyone's idea of a 'favour', but I do love my tree!
