He fluffed his lines!

Maybe he was nervous?!

I would be, most powerful person on Earth etc etc

Every time poor Bush got it wrong he was hung out to dry. Somehow I don't see that happening today (I mean poor Bush as he wasn;t cut any slack due to being so intesely disliked!).

I heard a bit of the speech and it was very good and slickly delivered. But it got too boring and was abandoned in favor of Chuggington! I'll have to watch it online tomorrow I guess - unless of course it's done to death on the news by then.

I stand by my original statement though that one of the best things to come out of this is that America actually got off it's backside and voted. Democracy rules and is too easily ignored by a sluggish electorate who take this right for granted. I'd like to see a turnout like this here!

What a powerful inauguration speech!

His message to the American people and to the rest of the world is one we should all be thankful for: an America that will take responsibility for its actions and their impact on the rest of us. He went through all the hard issues outstanding in America and made very public promises, he didn't pull any punches either: America tends towards the ideologically self-congratulatory, but not this time!

I refuse to embrace cynicism. I am hopeful and I am so proud, and I haven't felt like that about the country I come from and its people for a very very long time.

The fact that he's drop-dead gorgeous just means that I'll be following his progress on the telly, rather than on radio 4!

I am so glad I watched the inauguration. Kids tried to turn over to beeb 2 but turned back pretty quickly :x:lol: I hope they understand why today is such an important day. I did feel for him during his signing in bit. The guy who read the promt said a bit too much for him to remember and repeat I think, especially with all those people watching, and with what is on his shoulders now.

I watch his speech, I was impressed. :) I dont care he fluffed his declaration, so what?!

I agree, shows he's a human being and not perfect. I think it's fantastic that the US has a black president, anything is possible. I hope he really does change things for the better, but quite honestly just him becoming president is change already. My biggest hope is that some nutcase doesn't harm him or his family

Absolutely. Isn't it also refreshing to see someone deliver a speech without using notes or prompts of any kind. Not easy at the best of times but even more so under such pressure. Hat's off to Mr Obama.

Errr... he had auto prompt screens.

Did he? How do you know that? How much of a twit do I feel now

Is it just me, or is he a bit of a dish?

Yes, I agree, he is. But, more, isn't it great that adults are back in charge of America? When Barack won the Presidential election, I was so relieved that I opened the bottle of wine that I had bought for my birthday and toasted him.

I pray for his safety and that of his family.

Beside the Obama family, the Bushes look like the Munsters.

I thought his fluffing his lines a charming and endearing moment, quite unlike any of George Dubbya's howlers.

No worse than a bride or groom making a hash of their vows on the biggest day of their life.

He carried it off with dignity.

The speech that followed more than made up for it.

Time Aretha retired.

Listen to this, it's hysterical... heard it played on Wogan's show on radio 2 this morning.

I love this! I like the clip of him doing a little dance.

I think he's quite attractive, very charismatic at any rate.

Apparently he has written two books, both autobiographical (I think)

Dreams from My Father in February 2006 and The Audacity of Hope in February 2008.

did he??? where were they??? I must have been looking at his face too much

They are clear screens set in front and to either side of him the text is projected onto it. If you know what to look for.... It's rather like reading an autocue - you see them at lots of official speeches. Shame that Kate Winslett didn't use any!

Here's a picture of old Golden Brown using one; they are usually angled so that the cameras don't pick them up....

I thought that his speech was good - hard-hitting, gritty and honest.
