Escargot? I tried it for the first time this week on my cruise. I thought they tasted a bit like mushroom, but while chewing got to thinking about what it really was and couldn't stop gagging

No - I don't. Only had it once and that was enough. It smelt gorgeous but was just too chewy for my liking.

I'm afraid I couldn't eat it, (even when I wasn't veggie) the thought of eating things like that repulses me. Fine for people who want to, but me??? ooh no!! *shudder*

 

It's supposed to be like mushroom though so I have heard on programmes in the past, so your right

Luckily they was served with a slice of garlic toast which was used to "hide" the remaining critters which I couldn't think about eating. I felt terrible about the waste, but just couldn't eat another.

I did eat them in Paris on my honeymoon and quite liked them - they were covered in very garlicky butter which was probably what I liked about them! (And yes, OH had some too so the garlic breath wasn't a problem .)

 

Can't say I'd choose to eat them now though .

Love them! though were smothered in lots of yummy garlicky butter. Particularly enjoyed the winkling-thingy to get them out the shells, felt really sophisticated (after the v handsome and charming waiter showed me what to do.... )

ditto, they were lovely I had snails to start then coq au vin and finished with crepes- real French fare! It was a little restaurant up in Mont Martre. A real find, can't wait to go back one day.

i'd probably try some of hubbys if he ordered them as i'm pretty much willing to try anything.

I hate squid/octopus though, like eating rubber bands so if they are like that

squid is only like rubber if it's been cooked incorrectly. We had squid rings in a tapas bar in Edinburgh and they were really tasty and soft. It has a bad reputation because most people cook it for too long, that's when it goes rubbery.

Hubby tried these on our last cruise too, but he only ate one and said it was like eating mushroom. He declined to eat the other seven though

 

Me? I was having enough trouble with the fact that they were even on our table and had to ask the waiter to take them away as my stomach was churning so much.

I had snail pie in Canada ( well it was Quebec ) it was lovely, the sauce was red wine and garlic. The texture was like a not so chewy whelk. I thought of it as gardeners revenge pie.

 

I love calamari (squid) with garlicky mayo and chips but it has to be cooked right. It's one of my fav lunches on holiday in Greece. According to my Mother I got a taste for calamari at the age of 7 in Portugal. I lived for a fortnight on calamari and watermelon.

i haven't cooked it myself only tried it when out. Maybe i'll give it another go.

i love Mussels something i wouldn't try for years and have to be in garlic too

This is how I would describe oysters on the half (raw)...I also tried sushi for the first on this cruise and quite liked it. Go figure.
