Ocado - impressed!

Recommended Posts

We buy most of our fruit and veg from our farm shop, however the other shopping was mainly done with Tesco home delivery.

As we are trying to eat better and more ethically (I try to cook from scratch on most things), I decided after using them for a few years to take my custom elsewhere. I had heard good things about Waitrose meat, however as there aren't any anywhere near us decided to give Ocado a go.

They had one hour slots (rather than Tesco's 2hr)- it was booked for 9 - 10, came at 9.20. The driver even wanted to take the bags into the kitchen, but I said the hall was sufficent! So no more bending down on the doorstep getting bags out of the crates........and we even got a free copy of The Times!

It was slightly dearer, however there will be no waste and much better quality products - and everything I ordered was in stock......very impressed. :D:D

I use them too and am delighted as well.

I buy all my meat and fruit/veg from local sources, but shop online with Ocado for just the basics - I can never park in my street if I get back from a supermarket run, and I prefer not to shop at Te$co etc as I don't agree with their ethics.

The order is never large, but the produce always arrives in good condition, anything that is damaged can be returned immediately to the driver and deducted from your bill on the spot/

I love them to bits!

My Ocado delivery is coming tonight :) I LOVE the personal offers they send you. I got £1 off peppers and apples, £2 off lamb, £1 off ground Hereford beef and have also had £2 off their free range chickens in the past. We've only had one delivery that was late but they phoned to warn me that it could be three hours late due to mega problems. I was prepared to wait until the next day but the only other customer in our town that night was ranting at them:? so they came out with only 2 deliveries on board.

They are never late, frequently early & the drivers are really nice chaps :clap::clap:

I'll echo that - after my op last year, I couldn't lift anything for a bit - the drivers were really sweet, insisting that I sit down while they carried the bags in. They always call if they are going to be early to check if it's OK.

My road is terrible for parking so they either have to lug the crates the length of the street or double park while they deliver.

We used to get Te$co deliveries at work and they were surly at best

We have started using Ocado, very impressed with them.

Never had anything out of stock yet, and the drivers are always lovely and friendly. I always save the bags to give back to them on the next visit.

The fresh veg has always been really good quality so far as well, not all bettered and bruised as it has been when I've ordered delivered shopping from other places.

They get my vote, too - I use Waitrose because it's only 5 mins away, and although it's not cheap they do a really good range of ethically sourced meat and fish and organic veg.

I only use Ocado once every few months if I've got visitors coming and need a big shop, because Waitrose is so close by, but they are brilliant - they send a text to remind you they're coming, ring if they are going to be late or early, and always seem cheerful. I hardly ever get any substitutions. I also like the new thing they've introduced recently that tells you the shelf-life on what you are buying.

If only more companies could provide this sort of level of service!

I have never done the door delivery bit yet, it gets mum out and about too, but I think I know which one to rely on should I ever be unable to do my own shopping - illness or whatever. I do like Waitrose but our one is a few miles away and is very small. I prefer it for meat and veg if I can't get to the farms which are even further away - there is always a virtually empty car park, so I hope it doesn't get closed down.

Thank you all for the glowing recommendation.

I have used them for the past 18 months or so and they are FAB!! There is hardly ver anything missing and mine often come early - a very polite man phones and says can he deliver and I always say yes because it is in a more expensive delivery slot!!! I get refunds online if things are sqaushed and last week I got two little green vans as well. If you complain they always send you a bottle of wine :D What more culd you ask for??

Where the one in Brackley? Have i missed it  or do you mean the Towcester one? I've been going there and so far so good.

It's right by the Antique Cellar Hon. Come off at the first Brackley roundabout, then straight over the next one - it's about half a mile and off on the left. Can't remember the name of the road, but it's where the old Co-op used to be.

I agree with all thats gone before - I've online food shopped for about 4 years now and tried Tesco, Sainsbury and Ocado. Ocado has been by far the best, in terms of delivering on time and delivering the right stuff. I hardly ever have substitutes. (unlike Tesco who once delivered 100w screw in bulbs instead of 100w bayonet bulbs  ). Last september I even splashed out on prepay delivery for Ocado, which was about £70 (I think) for a years delivery charge. This means I can have free deliveries, as long as total is £40. I sometimes have 2 deliveries a week if I'm feeling particularly disorganised, but do always try to take the "green van" option. And as another omleteer said, the sell by dates on the shopping list let you check your dates quickly and plan your meals so nothing foes out of date before you've noticed. Items also have a longer shelf life than the other stores because it comes straight from the warehouse and not off the shop shelf.

All in all, they are brill !

we swear by them too! Just on my third delivery - my second one was not as good as the first due to poor packing resulting in leaking milk and squashed yogurts but they were ever so good about it. I am using them every other week to buy my bigger items as Andy is away so much now and I have got sick of not being able to reach the higher shelves in the supermarket and trying to lug the shopping about. Also the Ocado quality is first rate and they the staff are lovely. I am lucky to have 3 supermarkets in close proximity but one is the size of an aircraft hanger and is a complete chore, one has very limited stock and the other is almost always out of fresh produce, and having had to formally complain twice in there due to finding items well past their sell by date in the fresh meat and cheese sections I haven't rushed to go back.

SO Ocado for me all the way ... and I save money because I don't shop for toooooooo many items that aren't on my list!

We have used them for over a year now and can't fault them, tried all other online supermarkets but none compare, never had any issues, on our first year anniversary with them we had a lovely bottle of wine and regularly get freebies from them, this week we had a free sample of soya milk, love the free paper too, gets recycled by the girls after :)
