little jerry
This morning we got up to let the girls out of the igloo, and to our horror they were gone. Every part of the igloo had been opened and there was a lot of feathers about. We knew someone must have done this so we contacted the police. They have been great and are taking it very seriouslly as last night there was a report of youths being cruel to a chicken near by. We are distraught that our girls have suffered at the hands of cruel kids. OUr children have been crying all day. They were our pets after all and we all loved them. Anyhow, the police said they have got names of boys involved and they plan to prosecute. Thankfully they take cruelty to animals very seriouslly. We wont be put off and already plan to get more chickens but will make our garden more secure. Unfotunately its not just the fox we need to worry about, but sick minded people who take pleasure in hurting defencless animals. I can hardly bear to think of what they went through before they died, although they have not been found.I suppose a fox will have got them in the end. RIP Jerry ann Florrence

Saronne
That IS very upsetting. I'm so sorry for you and your children. Once you make your garden more secure and feel safe, please get more hens. Nice people should not stop keeping chickens because of such brutes. Well done to the police. Saronne x

It won't bring your girls back but these horrible people need to be taught a lesson . It must have been so upsetting, I hope your kids are OK . hilda-and-evadne
I am so, so, so sorry to hear this. Although I haven't had any "near misses" yet with youths, they do sometimes come past here in packs, and I started padlocking the WIR yesterday and thinking about chaining up the eglu so that the eggport cannot be opened when the chain is on (I think there is an Omleteer on this forum who has devised a way of doing this). Guest
That is so terrible but I hope that the sad brainless idiots that cant pick on something their own size get the book chucked at them(& more). Its really great to hear that the police are trying to do something about it and perhaps all your neighbours with ANY animals of any type want to be aware that these evil worthless thugs are around. These should be made to do community service in public for you all to see. Sick. Hope their parents are well ashamed and their schools and friends get to know. How sad for your children to learn that there are some wicked children in this world.. Really sorry for you indie

little jerry
We are not going to let these sick people put us off keeping chickens, but I would like to be able to lock the pod next time round. Its been so hard to cope with the idea that they suffered at the end. The report back from the police is that they were seen being cruel to one of the girls in a street near to us. All your kind words are helping me get by tonight. X
