I feel so stupid

Recommended Posts

I know that this is really not a big deal but maybe (harking back to another thread) I am feeling hormonal so I am getting more upset than I should be!

Here goes....Just been into town with DD. On our way out of the car park (Festival Place for those in the know!) , I was following a red car that suddenly stopped and began reversing towards me as she had just passed a space that she wanted. I looked in my back mirror but (and this is where it is totally my fault) did not turn round to check that the route was clear. As I was reversing another car was coming down a slip lane to my left. I heard the horn at the same time as I felt the bump. There hasn't been that much damage done and we have exchanged details. My rear near side has just lightly s"Ooops, word censored!"ed with the corner at her front offside.

The woman who had caused the problem in the first place just got out of the car with her family and walked off as I was talking to the lady that I had hit.

I know that it is my fault. I should perhaps have not reversed at all - just stayed put and made the woman in the red car carry on driving to another space (and there were loads of other spaces that she could have carried onto - maybe it might have meant that she had to walk a few more yards!!!) Once I did reverse, of course, I should have completely checked that the way was clear - a nano second's inattention has caused me grief.

I don't even know why I am so upset about the whole thing. I want to scream with frustration but it might frighten the kids a bit much so I thought I would come and rant on here instead.

Thanks for reading.

I'm sorry you feel so bad but it was an accident and "Ooops, word censored!"ody got hurt thats the main thing. I think often its the shock that makes you feel so awful.

An old chap up the road suddenly braked in front of me as we were waiting to go out of the road and I went in the back of him. It was the one time I have driven YS to school. I felt awful, they were lovely and there wasn't any damage but by the time I got to school and explained to the office what had happened in case YS complained of feeling unwell later, I was in tears. Felt a right plonker

As I think has been said, a nice glass of wine will soon sort you out. Or a cup of tea :D

Thanks for the positive thoughts people :)

I may have to go along with Snowy's idea and pour myself a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc - purely for medicinal purposes you understand.

Poet, I subscribe wholeheartedly to that sentiment and will remember your wise words should I ever be in a similar situation.

Christian, you are quite right, it is the car park from hell. I just missed a car park space on an outdoor car park on the way in so perhaps it was fated that I was going to be a wally today!

Feeling much calmer and more rational now.

Hi

Just adding my sorry & hugs.

Its so annoying, isn't it.

A few years ago, in a tiny car park at work, someone had parked NOT in a proper space.

I tried carefully to reverse out to avoid this car and while I was watching the back of my car and THEIR ('illeggally' parked) car, my front wing clipped a wall.

No problem I thought, the garage could simply knock it out.

But no, whole new wing and increased insurance cost (despite having protected no-claims bonus).

I agree with Snowys plan,

H

Hugs and rant away!

I had my first accident in 22 years last holidays. I was taking James to a play place - driving down a lane which was COVERED in mud towards a bridge - I saw that there was a road sweeper up ahead and that we were slowing down and I was slowing down. James had a can of coke and was about to spill it as he was missing the cup holder. I took my attention away from the road - the sweeper stopped to talk to a lorry driver coming the other way and when I looked up it was too late to stop from hitting the KA in front of me. I was sooo shaken up and worried that James would be frightened. Lovely old lady that I hit was just mad at the lorries for stopping - if the road hadn't been muddy I might have stopped too.

As I got out of the car to exchange details my necklace fell off my lap. It must have come undone before the accident. It's my "lucky" necklace - made by a witch friend and it aligns my Chakra - but it had fallen off!!!

We were all fine, the car is now fixed and I'm £550 lighter as I have a HUGE voluntary excess!!!
