There have been some steely glares from the other 3 girls but I'm sure in time everyone will get on fine.

barnabydaisy
we picked our two rescue chucks(Valentina and Eva) yesterday and so far its not been too bad, we were told that our old hens may bully the new ones but its beenthe other way round the old ones seem to be scared of them! they have had a few pecks so we decided top seperate them again tonight to be on the safe side and try them in together tommorow! wish us luck, its very moving to watch them walk arond and be in the fresh air for the first time! they don't look as bad as we expected and also seem larger than our original girls,we even had an egg today untill sella got to it!!they don't normally eat thier eggs any idea why they did this? Cate in NZ
Congratulations JellyB and Mim & Jason on getting your rescue hens. They'll all settle down together well I'm sure, although it may take a little time if the existing girls are a bit territorial. I love the photo of the existing chickens glaring at the rescue girls we even had an egg today untill sella got to it!!they don't normally eat thier eggs any idea why they did this?Mim and Jason I don't know why they've taken to egg eating Mim & Jason, although we had the same problem very soon after the ex-batts arrived. The eggs being eaten though had quite fragile shells, unlike the eggs from the existing flock that generally have very hard shells. I kind of put it down to a bit of rough investigation which caused the shell to crack.... so a kind of happy coincidence (for them). Since they've recovered (and been stuffed with oyster shell ) the shells are a lot harder and we've not had any more egg eating since
JellyB
One of my new girls laid an egg yesterday. The first ex-battrey egg Not sure which one it was but I think it was probably Stardust. Her comb is redder than Ziggy's and she is a bit more willing to let me get near her. Ziggy's comb is still very very floppy and she runs away when I go near. Obviously I'm no chicken eggspert but that's what I think anyway. I am so proud of my girls
