Jules.
We have candled all 22 eggs tonight, 2 were definitely dead & have been removed from the incubator. 9 showed alive, with 8 "not sures" & 3 possible deads but still put back in the incubator as we weren't 100% sure. Of the 8 not sures we have seen 3 of them wobble, which means if all goes well we have at least 12 chicks to come I keep watching the incubator & grinning at every egg wobble I see I have put water in for the first time, & the humidity is up to 60% & the temperature has been decreased to 37 degrees. All I can do now is wait, & post updates Not sure how I'll sleep, & I'm sure I'll be up early. It should be fun in our house on Saturday as we have lots of people wanting to come to see the hatch happen. Lewis
It's all really exciting when they're due to hatch. You can sit there and watch the eggs wobble and you hear the cheeping coming from the eggs . Get your video camera ready, I video'd when my quail chicks hatched. When the first one hatches the others hear it and they all seem to want to get out and see what all the fuss is about.
Egluntyne
Exciting for you.
Jules.
We still have wobbly eggs & the temperature & humidity seem fine this morning. I will get son to post some video of egg wobbles later Guess what I dreamt of last night Hatching eggs and things which went wrong But- in reality things are ok

feemcg
My 1st hatch I sat on a big cushion all night wrapped in a blanket, peering into the incubator . 2 years on and I manage to go to bed now and get a surprise in the morning

Egluntyne
True.....but can she touch type as she'll not want to peel her eyes away from the incubator? :D
feemcg
This is going to be a long thread ....it's only day 19, another 2 days to go before hatch (although I've had a couple of earlies on day 20 before, so maybe tomorrow).
Ain't Nobody Here
Oops . I thought it was all imminent (should've read the post more carefully ).
The Dogmother
How exciting for your Jules. I remmeber Rosie's excitement when we first hatched and I called her down in the morning to see a little fluffy yellow chickie peeping out from under his surrrogate mum; they'd started to hatch the previous night but I didn't tell her Your boys will be so excited. Jules.
Hi guys I've been out all morning at the Holiday Special club, hubby reports no more wobbles In fact he admitted to knocking into the table which the incy is on whilst hoovering, & spilling some water on the eggs
feemcg
Don't worry......sometimes I see a lot of wobble, as if they're settling into position, before the first pip.......then they go quiet for a bit. This time it was my strongest wobblers that hatched first, but I also had an egg that I didn't see wobble at all and it hatched just the same
Jules.
Really daft question- what do I put on the floor of the brooder firstly? I have seen your chick pictures, Fee, & noticed they were on a towel? I'm going to use my purple shallow tub trug as a brooder, & will only be keeping the chicks until Wednesday ,when they will go to live with my friend, a 1/2 hour drive away. The reason being I need to keep the chicks in the house as I have no outside power source, & I have 3 prowling cats. I will transport them as quickly as possible about lunch time when the temperature should be at its warmest.
feemcg
I use a layer of non-slip matting with kitchen paper on top for the 1st five days or so......usually needs changed about 3 times a day. Then i just use Easi-bed. (I think I tried using a towel once but their wee claws kept getting caught on it). My brooder is set up in the utility room, but I get them out to the garage at week 3......I don't know how anyone can keep them in the house longer than this....they smell, even when cleaned out every couple of days......and there's a thick layer of dander dust on every surface. Egluntyne
Aubiose with cheap supermarket 'J' cloths on top for the first few days and then just the Aubiose.
Griffin
I'm feeling cheated now. I've seen none of mine wobble. I have a Corti incubator and viewing is utterly pants so I guess that's why I've missed out on wobbling eggs. I didn't think it was possible to sit and watch eggs in an incubator for as long as I did but now I realise I'll just have to try even harder next time Dear OH and the kids, Don't expect me to do anything at all around the house, not even feed you, during the month of May. In dire emergencies you'll find me glued to the incubator in the bedroom. It'll be worth it though, I promise. Yours sincerely, Me.
The Dogmother
I used some of that non-slip matting that you can buy in rolls to use on trays; it's washable and I put it in the bottom of the eglu for a few days after they hatched and ventured out from under Mummy. Once their legs were strong enough I switched to just Aubiose.
