Cheryl
I bought two Poland Chickens from someone who said they reared them from eggs, but I think now they are 14 weeks that the Black one is a COCKERAL..How can I tell?...And if I do have a Cock with the other 16 hens, will I be in big trouble?.... and, are they really noisy?...as I would even consider keeping the two Polands in separate houses..EEEEKK!! look at pics and see if you can tell please!!! They are 14 weeks old.. his red bits and tail look a bit suspect.. or is it the breed?
Jules.
I have a Poland that is about 26 weeks old, & I would put money on it ( even though I don't bet ) that you have a boy there, sorry. Just look at those beautiful pointy curling tail feathers. My Petra is really loud, too

Well I am actually a couple of miles out of town in a small village & Indiana isn't the only cockeral in the village, so he doesn't bother the neighbours! But for a small bloke he is VERY loud! LaPoule
Dissenter here I'm afraid. Not to say that he/she isn't a cockeral, but he/she looks very like my Polish Picasso, and she's definitely a girl. Sorry to have confused matters.

LaPoule
Sorry - I'm in work! I can send you something when I get home. Send me a PM with your email address (I've never posted a photo on the site before - will try and figure that out later) and I will do it when I get home. Mind - I make no guarantees, but here's hoping
Daphne
Pretty sure thats a boy I'm afraid - polish boys have pointy wigs and girls have rounded ones. And to complete the good news I think they are pretty noisy as well. Sorry.
LaPoule
I have sent a separate email with photos, but thought I would try posting them here too. It's my first time posting photos to the forum, so please have patience
Patricia W
We too have a Polish cockerel and love him to bits. He is noisy but we have lovely neighbours. We notice he crows most when he loses "his girls". Their eyesight is poor so be resorts to calling for them when he loses sight of them. We suspected she was a he for a few weeks, but it wasn't confirmed until he crowed! Tricia

LaPoule
Hello again - I've dug out some photos of Picasso when when we first got her. Even at 20 weeks, she barely has any wattle... Not sure this bodes well for yours...Sorry to have given you false hope 12 weeks old 20 weeks old
Patricia W
I'm pretty sure it was about 20 weeks before we were sure - when he crowed. We thought we'd worked out how to sex them and had chosen 3 we were sure were girls BUT 2 out of 3 were boys! We had been told that those with the most rounded heads were girls - but it didn't work... So if you are hatching Polands, make sure you have room to keep them for 5 months and know what you are doing with the boys you don't want.
