I've got chicken pox!

Recommended Posts

thanks everybody! The urge to scratch is getting ever worse  and I look a right sight now. I've now got my first spot on my eyelid - which is the first one that has worried me. I now have too many spots and blisters to count it is that bad

I had a very poor immune system as a child, which was picked up when I had septaceimia at the age of 5 and I really did (and still do) catch everything - with the exception of chicken pox, and I was exposed to it no end. So to catch is now is a real bummer

I'm going to try a bicarb bath shortly. I was also advised that I am still infectious until all the spots have crusted over - which is, I guess, why I've been signed off for 3 weeks. Another myth is that you can only catch it once, but apparently that isn't true either.

Considering I only got my first spot 48 hours ago, I am stunned at the speed which they have spread. Can you tell I'm feeling rather sorry for myself? Especially as we had so many plans for the weekend. Oh and thanks T - himself is actually home for a bit now, but we shall be straight round as soon as I am not contagious.

Right, just off to put a large cross on the front door and set up a looped recording from the roof top saying 'unclean, unclean' to warn unsuspecting visitors .....

When a friend's children had CP, she sat the in a warm bath for a fairly long time & watched the spots pop out  !!!

We had chicken pox parties when my two were small, so invite all your friends round for a tea party who have children who haven't had the lurgy - tell them they will thank you in the long run  !!! It'll give you something to look forward to.......

Hope you aren't feeling too horrendous with it all :anxious:

Hi Redfrock,

Did the doctor not suggest giving you an anti viral? It's Zovirax related. I think it needs to be given early on, so maybe it was too far developed.

I also got chickenpox in my 30s. I wish I had opted for the anti viral rather than let it run it's course. Hope you don't feel to poorly and are coping without scratching!

Hi RHC - I did actually ask the doc for the anti-virals because I got to see him within a few hours of the first spots appearing but he didn't want to prescribe them. My doctor is normally ever so good but he stated that they only prescribe them for people with suppressed immune systems however today, just 48 hours later, they have given me Zovirax eye cream as I now have the spots inbetween my eyelashes :(

So far I am proud to say I have managed not to scratch :angel: although it is proving soooooo difficult!

Thanks for all the supportive messages everyone. It is helping me keep my chin up. Although I feel terribly guilty feeling so sorry for myself

how are you today?

how kind of you to ask Jules

Much better thank you :) . I think I am finally turning a corner! More spots blistering than appearing now - I am telling myself that this is a good thing  . When I have no new spots appearing I shall be throwing a party! I'm not so keen on having to put cream in my eyes 5 times a day though :( particularly as I struggle with eyes at the best of times.(which is why I can't wear contacts etc)

Still, it is nice weather and I am catching up on some books I have been wanting to read and I have a few good films lined up to watch .... I can't wear my glasses at the moment becasue I have spots behind both my ears and across the bridge of my nose  so they will have to wait a few more days!

And I am still not scratching  although I have definitely knocked a couple of the ones on my face and neck during the night ...fingers crossed they don't scar
