Picture016.jpg

It looks good, is solid and the stick is stuck in there.....I will report on the chooks thoughts tomorrow :D

The recipie is from Redwing on another thread. I tweaked slightly.

Layers pellets (bulk of the block)

Mixed Corn

Grit

Raisons

Dried Meal Worms

Sunflower seeds

Mixed an egg with two heaped dessert spoons of flour and a splash of water, stirred in the above and then a dash of honey. Got a big piece of tin foil and heaped the mix on, inserted a cane and then rolled it all tight into a fat sausage :D Covered the cane in foil too and popped in the oven at 120 for 50 mins :D

Baked meal worms yummy ...sounds interesting let us know how long it takes for them to devour it???

I have been collecting cow parsley and they do eat that but want something to keep them occupied that looks good

looks yummy (well for chickens anyway lol) will have a go at that this week. did you just put all the wet stuff in then add the dry till you got the right consistency?

I mixed the water, egg and flour together and then added layers pellets and bits and bobs.......the mixture was quite loose which is why I added the honey but I am sure that it would of been fine without :D It seems as hard as nails after it`s time in the oven but I spose it will be put to the test tomorrow!

Remember to drill hole in the cane so it can be hung!!

Well it seems to be a hit!!! :D

Typically everytime I go out there with a camera to get "proof" that they like it they are all eating grass or generally just lounging about!

It is still solid and no major chunks have fallen off..........Old Speckled Hen seems the most interested and has given it a good going over.....as it moves everytime she pecks at it she is running around in circles so she is getting a good work out too!

I think i will rethink the bamboo cane though as when I drilled the hole for the string to hang it from it split so it is currently hanging on string secured with gaffa tape which is a bit unsightly and prob not very hygenic!

Any ideas on a alternative stick/hanger??

Would a metal skewer work, do you think? The whole thing might fall off the end if you have the hook at the top though :? .

I was thinking metal skewer but as you say it may fall off the bottom.

I have two of these 0564_1.jpg

which I hang their apples etc from so I was wondering about using them when I make them again...... it has a hook on top and big washer and screw on bottom :D Don`t know why I didn`t think of using it before!!! I spose if i wrap the whole thing in tin foil then it should be ok in the oven??

Edited to add the picture
