Skyline or Belle Blue

Recommended Posts

i thought we'd decided on what breeds we were going to get but after having lovely blue eggs given to us, my son has decided he will only eat blue ones :!: we were going to get a belle blue (ys's both want a blue chicken) but now i'm considering getting a skyline. i know there's no guarantee of blue eggs but it might be worth a try :)

i've just been told by a breeder that skyline's can be aggressive and am now not sure what to do :( do any of you have skyline's and if so, have you found them to be aggressive?

My Bluebelle is my noisiest chicken and as much as I love her she's put me off having any more Bluebelles! My Columbine (same as Skyline) is very friendly, quiet, and makes us laugh the most because she's so thick but, as with around 20% of Skylines/Columbines, she doesn't lay blue or green eggs, hers are a pale creamy colour. So if it's important that you definitely have blue eggs then I'd forget about buying a hybrid and buy a good Cream Legbar or Araucana, or even a blue egg laying Dorking type.

I have two skylines/1 columbine and they rule our roost. They are the most aggressive of them all and don't like being stroked at all. They are content in their space which is more than I can say about the sussex!!

They do lay lovely blue and green eggs though.

We have a blue belle too, Rosie. She is soft and very friendly, she lays beautiful raised speckled eggs.

I have 2 Skylines too, one lays green & one lays blue eggs.

They are both scatty & flighty, but thats fine. They have huge comedy value with their stupid antics & mop top hair dos!

As you have a few hens already,if you got 2 you not only increase your chances of the beautiful coloured eggs, but the intros would be smoother too 8)
