chickencam
I am taking her to the vets in half an hour because she has a small prolapse that has been pecckek by the others a bit and I think she may have an egg stuck too. She hasn't layed since last Sunday which is the longest break that she has had since she started to lay back in September 2007 She was in the nesting box this morning and normally I would have just left her to it but I poked my head in to see if she was ok and she got up which is when i noticed a sort of bloody plug sticking out of her vent and she tried to poo around it. She is a very flighty hen and I didn't want to distress her. So we put her in a pet carrier with some water and called the vet.

Peaches
How did you get on at the vets? I'm hoping it is good news. Fiona
chickencam
Sadly not good news. When the vet tried to push the prolapse back in he found a cyst about the size of a marble which he tried to drain but he couldn't and said it may well be the beginnings of a tumour. He felt that her outlook was not good so we had to say goodbye. She has given us so many lovely pure china white eggs and has worn herself out. Thankyou Dippy and R.I.P

Plum
I'm sorry to hear about Dippy, I think when you find something that's not going to resolve and can only get worse then you did the right thing for her. It doesn't make it any easier for you. Hugs

chickencam
My other girls keep looking for her The children were sad, but one good thing that came out of it was that both of my older children said 'well I'm glad it wasn't Katie's chicken' It was hers that died only about 3 months after we got them. So that showed sibling kindness which can sometimes be in short supply
Budgies
It's always so hard to lose a pet isn't it? I'm glad your children are being kind to one another!!
