In the picture above I'd not swapped the trays, but have now, although don't have a picture of the current settings.

Oh Andrew, thanks so much - that's exactly what I needed to know! I lurve the blue/purple arrangement, they look really 8)

 

I don't think I can get over there to collect one, I need to check with a friend that I can have it delivered to her work, so I don't have to take a day off for delivery, and then I can order! :D

I never thought I'd EVER be able to post on this thread but it's finally happening - my OH is about to build me a WIR for my bantam girlies!!!

 

I am so happy I could burst. :dance:

 

This is my birthday present (which was in July - very patient me). We have been and bought the weld mesh today - Reynard aint gettin my girlies - priced up timber, roofing and bought my first bale of Hemcore to trial in existing run.

 

Run will be on slabs but most of internal floor will be on (tatty) lawn/soil. Hemcore (or whatever) will then go on this.

 

Anybody have any thoughts/recommendations for floor covering/anything I should know?

PS - There will be room for more chooks too - yay!.

Congratulations.

My run is on a concrete base that just runs around the edge with soil / aubiose in the middle. It sounds similar to what you are planning. It is easy to clean out and the girls love throwing the aubiouse around.

Yay, great news fluffyfeet :dance: Sounds similar to mine too. We built ours on concrete but there was a very old filled in pond in the middle, so they have a bit of concrete with easibed on and a bit of soil with woodchip on - best of both, they seem to love it anyway

We keep the two areas seperated by log roll.

My locally built WIR is done and it gets erected this Friday :D

 

I can't wait :D

 

The fox had my girls and dragged them around a bit but they're much better now so a walk-in run is so I can let my girls have loads more space to do chickeny things without the worry of the fox getting them. Concrete footings in place so I hope Reynard is thwarted :!:

I think I'm giving up with the DIY route - priced up some of the wood to make one similar to a Tony run and its getting to stupid prices, then the effort to make it in the rain.

 

I've been pricing up Aviary panels and its cheaper to buy those and put them up, than to make them ourself ... so at the moment thats the idea. Have emailed a few places about the gauge weld mesh they use and what wood they use so at least we know it should stand up for a while once up :lol:

 

Need to work out how big it is and where it needs to go now - that'll be the biggest problem with father :lol:

try great barr saw mills on the Aldrigde road just up from Asda I got the cladding for mine from there

but for ply best to sick with the diy sheds

Thats where we went when we made the vivarium and incubator :D - grandad lives round the corner so then I went to his + he has a workshop so made them there.

After months of waiting, I can finally join here saying 'yipppeeee... my run is being built' :D .

I've been wanting one for ages, and it's finally getting done. We had looked at getting a Tony, and while chatting with my usual garderner/landscaper, he mentioned he had built those before and we got talking and as he was regularly doing work for us anyway we decided to give him a try... so we're getting a 'nigel' rather than a 'tony' :P ...

 

Once the chickens' one is done, assuming we're happy with it (Nigel is usually very good at what he does, so not expecting bad surprises), we're planning to get another one done for the bunnies...

 

It will be so lovely to be able to go and see the pets, and actually be in the room with them rather than just feed them from the outside... plus of course all the room they'll get!!

 

Can't wait...

I haven't quite got to taking pics of the works in progress... Nigel and his helper are really lovely, but I feel a bit shy about barging in the middle of the action armed with a camera... usually when I go out there it's with cups of coffee!!

I will definitely post pics of the finished product though, I'm told it will be finished tomorrow, so hopefully by tomorrow evening the chooks will be moving into their Nigel...

Although I have stopped using the grub and glugs now and have switched to traditional shaped plastic drinkers, feeders and troughs but this is mainly cos I have more chooks than a grub can feed.

Thank you :) . Some of the pics on that thread seem to have gone, but it's still helpful, I knew there would be something on here about this...

 

Trying to decide whether to make something for my current feeders, get some more traditional ones, or both... I like my grubs, and especially my superglug, but some of the more traditional stuff looks nice too, and the superglug is so heavy it needs quite strong support... ummmm.... decisions, decisions :think:
