Have introduced two young Isa Browns this morning to the two older black rocks which we got on Saturday morning.

As expected the Black Rocks (Scary and Sporty) are pecking the Isa Browns (Ginger and Baby).

Scary has managed to draw blood from Baby's comb, a small nic but was wondering if I should do anything with it...?

I've had Baby in the house for closer inspection.

One of the tips of her comb is off. It is not bleeding, although it had been.

I have cleaned her with salt water and she seemed okay.

OH is away to the vets to get some anti septic spray just incase.

Going to PM you later Fee as it seems we now have a full house! :)

I have recently gone through the stressful new intros bit too and the 2 older ones were really pretty nasty to the new one (I know you should try not to introduce 1 chook, but sometimes it can't be avoided!). I got purple spray from my local horse supply shop. They also had a nice blue one. It really is great stuff and a good back up to keep at home. Keep at it as they do settle, mine are now all the best of friends although it took a couple of weeks for it all to settle. Whist trying to find the spray I used savlon to cover the wounds and it did do the job, but it didn't last so had to reapply. The purple spray dyes the skin and gets everywhere so be careful where you apply it as everything gets dyed.

There are lots of different types - I use this one as it has aloe vera in it too and seems to promote healing.

I even used it on myself once when I didn't have any hooman antiseptic to hand. As purplefowler has said - it's a devil to get off your skin and clothing, so take care when applying and defintely don't do it on a windy day!

Well, Baby and Ginger are still getting it in the neck - literally.

It certainly is a lot less than yesterday though.

Baby's comb is looking a lot better today. We had her out for a wee wander and a break from the others today. We were rewarded shortly afterwards with a little egg!

We did get some spray, but we have not used it. The wound looks very clean and I am keeping an eye on it.

The vet said something to my OH about the Violet spray - something about it being harmful to humans, so he does not use it...? Who knows...

So, day 4 and 7 eggs :D

Glad to hear it's not getting too bad :) .

Don't understand that vet's comment :? . It was a long time ago, but I'm sure I remember the matron at my boarding school using gentian violet on mouth ulcers (or maybe it was something else  ?)

You're right ANH, it's also used for oral thrush (can you imagine how attractive a mauve tongue is?!) and to treat warts too. It's mildly anti-viral.

Shows you what our vet knows, slightly worrying :anxious:

Unfortunately he is the only vet on the island!

Scarey and Sporty are still having a go at Baby and Ginger, I am using the FeeMcG method of just let them get on with it - really I am trying to not get too involved with them at this stage and let them sort it out between themselves.

It certainly is getting a bit better, thankfully, as there is no other option!
