bluekarin
My ED (12 at the end of this month) is away in France for 5 days for a school trip. The last time I saw her was 5AM when hubby drove her down to meet the coach. And I haven't heard anything from her. Now I'm sure this is normal for a school trip. I remember when I went to Germany with my school many moons ago, and we didn't phone home. We didn't have mobiles. But it just feels weird not having any contact from her and this is the longest time she has been away from home. I sent her a text earlier letting her know her phone has been topped up so she can text if she likes *hinthint* but nothing All part of growing up I suppose, but its quite hard. But on a plus side my friend is over from Australia with her 6 month old baby girl. I haven't seen my friend for nearly 3 years so it was great seeing her again. Turned into a bit of a garden party with nearly all the girl friends enjoying the sunshine, a Pimms or two and a cuddle or three from little Ruby
Ain't Nobody Here
Aww, it is hard when the little ones go away properly and seem to forget all about us . I reckon it means she's having such a good time, she's had no time to think about home or be homesick - which is a good thing . Sounds like a lovely reunion with your friend - I bet that helped take your mind off it .
bigmommasally
Oh I really feel for you. I have been through the same with both my daughters, they're now 25 and 22 and it doesn't get any easier. In my experience hinting doesn't work, I have had to be a needy mum and tell them that I need them to text me so I can sleep that usually works! Just remember on occassions like this no news really is good news, if she hasn't thought to phone you its because she happy and enjoying herself, which is just what you want. Try to relax, keep busy and enjoy the break, she'll soon be home with all her dirty washing!

Willow
The teachers may have asked them to turn off their phones. Kids phoning home from trips are more likely to get homesick. Doesn't help poor mum though
Chook n Boo Mum
OUr school has a policy that the children are not allowed to phone or text unless it's an emergency, and the teachers send a report in every day which is texted to the parents. Wonderful idea...when it works ! Sha x

The Dogmother
Our school and guides don't allow mobiles on trips - good thing too. Rosie only has an old PAYG for emergencies - she doesn't usually have it with her.
chickencam
My eldest 2 have both been on PGL adventure weeks in their last year at primary and they weren't allowed mobiles which was a good thing, they had a great time and got to tell the whole tale when they returned. We had limited contact with ED when she went to France last year when she was at the height of her various anxieties and that helped us all I think. When DS went on his bonding trip when he started year 7 he was allowed to phone home to wish his big sis a happy birthday and he actually did it which was nice. ED will be on a trip to the Somme when she turns 16 in September, she is due back just before midnight but if they are late I won't see her on her birthday that will be tough. We are really close and chat all the time normally.

Scramble
...Just remember on occasions like this no news really is good news... have to post this Of all the ridiculous expressions people use--and people use a great many ridiculous expressions--one of the most ridiculous is "No news is good news." "No news is good news" simply means that if you don't hear from someone, everything is probably fine, and you can see at once why this expression makes such little sense, because everything being fine is only one of many, many reasons why someone may not contact you. Perhaps they are tied up. Maybe they are surrounded by fierce weasels, or perhaps they are wedged tightly between two refrigerators and cannot get themselves out. The expression might as well be changed to "no news is bad news," except that people may not be able to contact you because they have just been crowned king or are competing in a gymnastics tournament. The point is that there is no way to know why someone has not contacted you, until they contact you and explain themselves. For this reason, the sensible expression would be "no news is no news," except that it is so obvious that it is hardly an expression at all. - Lemony Snicket sorry, it's just one of my favourite quotes, and I'm not getting at bigmommasally for using the quote, Lemony Snicket just makes me laugh basically, don't worry, everything will be fine. Jules.
She'll be home soon enough, hope that the time goes quicker for you than for her x My son is booked on a school trip for July next year when he's going to China for 10 days. I have no idea how I'll cope, it's soooo far away- but hubby & I have been plotting to go back to Disneyland Paris for a few days with youngest son during that time to make the time pass quicker

Surrounded by fierce weasles! That is an excellent quote. I am sure everything is okay. I'm guessing she hasn't even turned on her phone I did leave a little note in her wash bag so I hope she got that.
Scramble
that's why I posted it I'm sure she's not surrounded by fierce weasels though Aw, I love it when you leave notes, I remember when my sister first went away on a residential trip with school in year 5 for 2 days I was sad as I was going to miss her, so I made her a card and when she got back she nearly tore my head off with the hug she gave me

bluekarin
I'll find out Friday, if she gets off the coach with a crown on her head At least I know she isn't in any gymnastic tournaments, what with having a crutch.
