house-elf
I am currently growing some cucumbers, they are about 10cm tall, and look healthy but I still can't see any cucumber growing ! Does anyone know when the cucumber will appear ?
chooklady
http://www.cucumbergrowingtips.com/index.html Have a look at this site. I'm also growing some this year for the first time in ages. I used to grow them years ago with a reasonable amount of success. Good luck.
mostin
I usually let mine get to about 5 feet tall and then stop the plant growing any taller, then the cucumbers start forming.
chickencam
They seem to be taking their time this year.
moochoo
I've got about 3 cucumbers on each of my plants but they're in the greenhouse. They've only just formed. I think it depends on the type and whether they're an all female variety. I'm sure you won't have to wait long now though.
saracook31
I'm trying to grow cucumbers this year for the first time... seems a non starter so far The first plant put in, just wilted straight away and woudln't recover what ever I tried! All my other veg are in the same compost with same manure and I gave plenty of water. i have since planted two more plants, and one seems to be doing the same.. the other looks ok but not much growth so far even with all the rain & warm weather! Any tips?!
Torrin
I have cucumbers in my greenhouse - mini munch variety. 4 of them are doing really well and have started producing cucumbers even tho the plant is only about 1ft high. 2 of them died inexplicably, even tho they were treated exactly the same. Think they are just fragile plants, especially when small.
Ain't Nobody Here
I bought one plant from a garden centre. Its main leaf got knocked off on the way home . I don't think it's ever recovered but it hasn't totally died yet, just hasn't really grown any more .
Olly
I went to water the greenhouse today, and - overnight, it seems - two flowers have appeared and are already forming little cucumbers! I'm sure they weren't there yesterday. The butternut squash on the other hand, just doesn't seem to be doing anything at all.
Snowy
My cucumbers are in the greenhouse. Lots of leaf, but no flowers as yet, although I can see where they buds are starting to appear. I also have a melon and that is producing flowers!
Cinnamon
I have planted 3 so far, but only 1 has survived. That said, its doing very well indeed & is in a grow bag on its own in the greenhouse I may look out for a mini one to pop into the spare hole I have
chickencam
They are very prone to damping off in the early stages ie. they rot at the base. I have lost about 3 this way this year but I now have one with cucumbers set so hopefully we are on our way.
moochoo
I've tried two varieties this year. A general green cucumber and "Crystal Lemon" they're both an all female variety and they've done really well. Cucumbers hate root disturbance so if you've potted them on elsewhere that could cause them to die. I've used biodegradable pots and then potted them on by keeping them in the decomposing pot. I've use loo roll insides in the past too. Mine are in the greenhouse and I've got cucumbers that are about 4" long. As others have said they're just sensitive little plants. chooklady
Mine haven't grown very much at all, very disappointing. I don't know about 4" cucumbers, 4" inch plants would be good, they are sad!!
redhotchick
My cucumber plants are hopeless too! I keep meaning to pop a few more seeds in! If I keep them in the greenhouse maybe there'll still be time to raise a crop bearing plant.
Snowy
Mine have suddebly had a growth spurt! They are putting on inches every day!

bluekarin
I have 4 cucumber plants in a large pot outside. They are all now about 5ft tall and have tied them to an arch which is meant for a climbing rose, but as that doesn't seem to be climbing . . . . I have lots of lovely yellow flowers and behind each flower a ickle cucumber My brother mentioned you were meant to remove the flowers otherwise you get bitter fruits, but after reading a bit, it seem if they are male flowers remove them and if they are female leave them. Female have the cucumber growing behind the flower, just in case you were wondering
Snowy
Mine are on he way up he roof of the greenhouse!! I daren't try pollinaing the flowers as the cucumber and melon flowers are all mixed up and I can't ell which is which! Hopefully I don't need to resort that though as I think I have some litle cucumbers appearing at last!

Milly
Why do my cucumbers have spines on them? Do they remove them in the shops or do they have a different variety? (Mine are "Burpless") Milly

(Mine are "Burpless") Milly Mine have little spines on, but the biggest one is starting to go a proper cucumber looking skin with no spines, so i,m guessing they drop off or something !
