:lol: I don't think the general public are quite ready for an airing of the superpants at such a large venue :lol: .

I went today, and met Omletina/Diane!

It was lovely to meet another Omleteer at last, and she soon persuaded me that I could do with another Eglu (not that I took much persuading though :D ). I think my mum actually sold another Eglu whilst Diane was writing my details down  It was great to see the different colours and I am glad I have seen the cube at last, in the flesh.

A tip for anyone who is a subscriber to Gardeners World, take your membership card and they let you use the Gardeners World lounge, where you get free packets of seeds and a free bottle of water. You get a badge to wear so you can return to the lounge whenever you want a rest. You can also get discounts at some stalls with the membership card. The lounge is not too far from the Omlet stand.

I did the food bit first and then into the indoor gardening stuff after, finally going to the RHS marquee and the outside stands last, it was not too congested that way around. The show opens at 9am so if you get there then it will be fairly quiet for a couple of hours. The West Midlands has concessionary bus and rail fares from 9.30 so the local rabble (like me!) arrive any time after 10am. Bear in mind that the show is at the far end of the NEC complex, in halls 17, 18, 19 and 20, so a fair way from the railway station, but there is a skywalk to help you get there faster :D . If travelling by car the nearest car parks are the north ones ie, those with the letter N as a prefix.

I was blown away by the poppies being sold on some of the stands, breathtaking colours and really tall too. I resisted the urge to buy any plants though, I think my garden is full now :D

I hope everyone visiting this show has a great time, I did, and can't wait for next year's now!

Edited to add, look out for Rebekah's vegetable seeds in the RHS marquee, she sells veg and herb seeds in brown envelopes for £1 a pack and 6 for a fiver. She has a really great selection if you are looking for anything unusual. There were at least ten types of chard, I got some anise and angelica seeds amongst others :D

We were inside - in the main hall. I'd say the same as others, so take something to drink (as you'll be talking a lot) and wear comfy shoes. There are no seats on the stand so I was standing for 9.5 hours!

You need a passport sized photograph of yourself - I don't think I was told this at all, so didn't have one, they will do photos of you there but they are £4 - in the end we cut a photo out of the Guardian of a woman who looked a bit like me (when I say a bit like me, I mean she was a woman....) and used that!!!:wink:

We sold 11 Eglus and 3 Cubes today and it was such great fun, I really enjoyed it, and am already wanting to do another show!!

Have fun!

Sounds like you have had a long day, good experience and I would like to go to have a look round, and I am sure I could be persuaded to make a purchase!

Will look out for the next venues dates again

It was a long drive as well for you. Thanks for the info, I am prepared. I had an email from Johhannes today about the passport picture. I've found one but love your solution. I'm just going to read my instructions again and get off to bed. :D

well i did volunteer - but never heard anything

Me neither. :( Maybe next year.

I went to GWL yesterday and had a great day. I popped over to the Omlet stand and had a brief chat with Omletina/Diane too. Sorry I missed you, Charlotte Chicken. Diane said you'd been there. It was good to meet another Omleteer. That's two I've met now.

I did go to the Countryfile theatre for Adam's talk and got to ask him a question about the ex-batts he collected from BHWT. He says they are doing really well, scratching around and dust bathing. Their combs are shrinking and reddening already, and they are laying loads of eggs, but they still have a long way to go with growing feathers yet (it's only been a few weeks). He said they were the friendliest (for that read "nosy") chickens he'd ever owned, despite keeping several rare breed chickens for years. :D

It was great to see Monty  back on good form and looking really well. He's been filming a series for Channel 4 about Smallholding. Really looking forward to that. I also loved the James Wong talks. He is as cute and as engaging in real life as he is on TV. OH bought me his book recently and I can't wait to try some of the "recipes".

I loved the Highways garden the best of the show gardens and in the small gardens category, I thought the Nursery Rhyme one was interesting.

All in all a great day out and not as packed as previous years which was probably a reflection of the credit crunch but, on a purely selfish level, made it more enjoyable as there was space to move around. If you've yet to go, do have a great time. :D:D:D

It was good to see you kate. :D Yes it was really busy and lots of interest.

My poor ankles are really aching after standing so much so I've got them up.

We took over 20 orders and I think the majority were for cubes but I may be wrong. We caught some children in the runs so need to add that to thread about what animals you can keep in an eglu but bet that's been done.

On display were the most gorgeous soft toy chickens. I want one!! Presumably they used to be in the shop so bet all you mature omleteers have got one.

Have a good time tomorrow Moochoo. Recommendation for lunch - samples from the Good Food exhibition  Even had samples of wine.

I'm glad you had a good day, Plum. I really enjoyed mine! I've been asked to do some more shows, including 3 days at one!! So I can't have been that bad (I sent an email volunteering for more and got a reply straight back! - can't wait to spread the word further)

I found the best thing about the Omlet stand is that most people come around the corner and see you and smile because the stand is so colourful (we had a green cube with run, a red eglu with run and then a pink rablu and purple eglu on rotating stands) and happy looking!!

Put your feet up today, after a day on your feet you'll need to!!

People are coming from Wiltshire + Lincoln, and I only live 1/2 hour away and I'm not going, how does that work?

I'm not really a gardening'y person apart from attempting at the veg, but would go just to talk about chickens! wish I'd volunteered now
