Griffin
We iz feelin better so today our hooman shoved us in a box and ejected us into a new home in a place called 'the garage'. We hav lots more space to flap our wings and play. Our hooman took photos of us Naughty Ara uses food as dust bath! *A note from the hooman: They're four weeks old now and I'd put money on the blue Orp being a boy. It's so gangly, has hardly any feathers and has a comb already. It reminds me of Wally at the same age. It wouldn't surprise me if the black Orp is a boy too although that one does have a lot more feathering so I'll reserve judgement on that one for now. I've always thought that the Poland was probably a boy, the Dorkings are both boys so I'm really hoping for some girls amongst the Silkies & Araucanas

WitchHazel
Gorgeous babies! Enough to make me broody. Chicken broody I mean.
tidygirlsuk
They are lovely. Are you sure about your dorkings though. No dorking breeder that I've spoke to would sex them this early. They are all lovely either way.
Griffin
Definitely boy Dorkings, pale headed as day olds and now they have black feathers on their chest. Girls would have a dark stripe as day olds and a salmon coloured chest now.

Phosphorus
They are all really lovely. Hope you get your girls. I am only really certain of one brahma at the moment being a girl and one ara being a boy with mine at the moment. Praying the rest aren't all boys How are your brahmas looking now? I think I saw the top of one in one of the photos?
Griffin
The Brahmas aren't in the pics, they're in the garden with their 'mum'. I'll take pics of them this week although they hate me, they're not used to being handled and they scream at the top of the voices

I have handled mine minimally - feel really bad that they aren't more tame by now but mum is quite protecttive (she did lay her first egg yesterday after being off lay for nearly 9 weeks so the end might be in sight ). Just need to get her accepted back by the big girls again now
Griffin
I think it'll be easier for you than for me, as Tiger Lily came here when her chicks were a day old she's never been in with my lot. I can't decide which coop to put her in, the main one or in with the ex-bats. I think over the next week or so I'm going to have to let her free range separated by netting so she's that bit more closer to them, introduce some of the lower ranking girls to her section of the garden and take it from there. I hope she gets on with the ex-bats so she can sleep with them. I think they'll be more tolerant of her but I'll not know until I try. I thought we would be absolutely fine until one of her old pals went for her through the omlet netting Thankfully I hadn't just put her in with them. The eglu run is now inside their freerange area so that the big girls can see her and the chicks when they free range now, really up close. The extension to the run, which will have a separating mesh, will be finished hopefully in the next few weeks so if Gemma isn't back with her old mates by then I will just put her in with the chicks in their new WIR
The Dogmother
Blimey, they grew quick! Didn't take them long to get to teenage stage, did it?
Griffin
Blimey, they grew quick! Didn't take them long to get to teenage stage, did it? I know, the Orpingtons in particular look dreadful because all they've done is shoot right up, grown massive feet, legs & necks but are bald in places where they just haven't had enough time to sprout feathers Blue Orp is still more fluff that feather, his energies are going into growing his comb and not feathers The Aras look funny because they're growing funky hair do's on top of their fluffy heads
The Dogmother
I never know whether to laugh at them or not when they are going through this stage
Griffin
Hmmmmmmmmm, well that was interesting. This afternoon we let Tiger Lily & the Brahma chicks out of their run and onto the new grass. The plan was to allow them to free range while introducing a few of the ladies. In my mind I knew who I wanted to put in with her but the little darlings took matters into their own hands and several found a gap in the netting Of course they weren't the ones I had in mind! I was interested in how Tiger Lily would react because I'd been told in her old home everyone picked on her and all she'd wanted to do was live on her own, she was very subdued by the bullying and they hoped having babies would give her confidence. It certainly has! First of all Hercules started acting very silly infront of her so she gave him a pasting! He soon took himself back off to see the 'nice' girls Then Primrose started to have a go. Primrose is a very low ranking girl so I was surprised with her reaction but not as surprised as I was by what happened next. Primrose started on Tiger Lily, Tiger Lily fought back but Mrs Pants bundled in and had a right go at Primrose and firmly reminded her of her place in society! Mrs Pants then happily wandered around with Tiger Lily & the chicks Pants seemed really happy to be with her new friends. I thought Pancake was head girl but she had seen Tiger Lily wasn't to be messed with, seen Pants defending her and I guess she thought it was best to keep quiet because she then seemed happy to be alongside them. So judging by this afternoons antics Tiger Lily can handle herself very well in a fight and will be fine in with the mob

My probable lavender ara cockerel was in attack position to anyone who went near the eglu run yesterday. He was completely up for a fight - think it definately confirms his sexuality
