Snowy
Thanks all! I must admit he turned out better than I expected! And I didn't use a zip, just stitched up after filling. He's now on the floor between the kitchen door and the freezer - just the right size to stop the door handle making the dent in the freezer door any bigger! AND - this is officially my FIRST bit of chickenalia, what a day!
Egluntyne
How fab Snowy!!! Do you take commissions?? Martin...you should be out gathering ASBOs not sewing chickeny cushions at your age!!
Martin B
I'm only in it for the business. I could easily sell them for less than £12, but still make a profit. I'm sure I could get some cheap material from a market or charity shop.
red
That's great Snowy - well done you! I am definately going to give it a go - may do a couple for christmas gifts.

If I make a few I might put them on my website!!!

Martin B
Just one question. How do you attatch the nose etc.
Nicola H
Martin I have been wondering the same thing......I think you will have to sew them in as you sew up the side seams, so that there will be a bit on the inside of the chicken....... Not sure that makes sense but I know what I mean...
Martin B
So fold a flap of the felt inside of the side and then sow that on, fold back out and then sow up? Please help Snowy!
Nicola H
Sew it up inside out Martin then you don't see the stitching it will be neater even if you don't use a sewing machine, just leave a small hole at the bottom then turn it the right way round fill with rice and sew up the small hole form the right side......... Martin B
It's my first time at sewing since primary school, I'm a bit useless. I'm practising on a bit of paper at the moment. How much would a sewing machine cost?
Nicola H
They are quite expensive, I will be hand stitching mine just take your time and keep the stitches close together.........
Martin B
How do I so?
Snowy
Hi Martin. Having problems? I'll try to help - here goes: This was the pattern I used, just two rectangles of cloth 8" x 6.5" Pin them together, with the beak and wattles in between the two pieces as shown and stitch three sides (leave a gap in the middle of one for turning and stuffing at the end) Next you need to pull the envelope apart along the top edge and bring the 2 stitched seams together then stitch along that edge Turn it inside out and voila! (hopefully ) Clear as mud eh!
Martin B
I'm still a bit stuck. I've made a card prototype but I think my sewing skills aren't good enough!
Snowy
I think it really needs a sewing machine to work properly. Mine was a very quickly hand sewn one just to check if the pattern worked, but it wasn't great. Stitches need to be really small and tight. Keep practising - it'll get there! Martin B
Thanks for the advice. I'm pretty sure my nan and aunty have one!

ubereglu
Another thing I found I'm better than you at Martin. Can work a sewing machine and hand stitch things. Always useful. With sewing machines you can always try ebay and maybe on freecycle too!
Guest
Well done for having a go Martin, I'll have to get Harry and Jules sewing. Dan can't sew for toffee so guess who ends up turning up trousers etc
Martin B
I can use a sewing machine. Somebody on freecycle has offered me 3 loads of curatins and they live in Alcester!
