Old Speckled Hen
I really want a purple mulberry bag at the moment Handbags ...I love them! Emma.x I have that one.... and I am not going to tell you all how much I spend on handbags, but that purple bayswater is worth every single penny. Just about to take it out now for a meeting! People stop me to ask if they can stroke it...... seriously.... And, it's the same colour as the eglu..... I hope you get your bag - it looks gorgeous. Suzy Wow, I love the ostrich one but it's 2K I had the chance to get a similar ostrich bag when I was in SA. The leather is lovely. I wish I had now...... it was nowhere near that price Hubby wants to visit SA, I'm not keen on the country but I might just go back for a handbag and some Carrol Boyes cutlery
Daphne
I never used to be a handbag girl but a couple of years ago I bought a very smart leather bag in a very cheap shop (not many of those about!) in Venice for £35. It looks very 'grown up' and people stop me and ask where I got it....I do confess to being a bit smug when I'm able to say 'Venice'. However, my smugness is nothing compared to my OH's - a colleague of his turned up at work with the exact same bag in a different colourway and he was able to tell her where she bought it I wonder if your husband did buy you that bag - I hope he did too. It obviously would be so much more than a handbag - a true gift of love for your anniversary.
Suzy
Wow, I love the ostrich one but it's 2K I have the patent version of that one..... fortunately it didn't cost £2k though! Think hubbie might have objected to that.... I had the chance to get a similar ostrich bag when I was in SA. The leather is lovely. I wish I had now...... it was nowhere near that price Hubby wants to visit SA, I'm not keen on the country but I might just go back for a handbag and some Carrol Boyes cutlery Planning a holiday to go handbag shopping.... like your style.... henriette
Oh dear, I'm a bit out of place here! I think I gave up buying handbags when I had to spend more than £9.99 on them, but that was a long time ago. I just use a rucksack now. When we go out, DH puts my lipstick in his jacket pocket, but we're so busy with the woods and chickens we rarely go out anywhere that requires dressing up. I have steared clear from this topic because in the past I have spent enormous amounts of money on handbags. An absolute obsession. I could never have enough of them and they were nearly always top of the range. However, over the years everything has changed. We have lived in the country (small holdings etc) for some years now, so I too rarely have the opportunity to dress up. BUT, I still have an overwhelming desire to buy new bags everytime we go anywhere near a handbag shop - the difference now though, is I don't (I did see a really nice little brown one the other day in Quimper, which would be really good when I finally go down to see my daughter............. )
docsquid
I just have a weakness for nice jeans, and really nice trainers. But then again, I do personal training and fitness instructing, so I NEED trainers for work (my excuse anyway). I wouldn't have room in the house if I collected handbags as well! Paddy
I have a Chloe Paddington bag in a pale grey leather. I use it all the time and have had it for over four years so the cost per wear is relatively small. I love it and also all my friends covet it so so badly! I think I now deserve a new one! I am looking at Mulberry .....!!!! It has given me alot of joy over the years!
AnnieP
I love handbags and have a couple of ridiculously priced ones. However, I have recently discovered the perfect bag: It is the answer to all of my dreams: It is made by a company called Miche. You buy the bag and then buy seperate "skins" for it, which are magnetic and just wrap around it. I LOVE it. Gone are the days of transferring all the rubbish out of yesterday's bag into today's. The bag itself costs a fair bit, but the covers are reasonably priced... SO far I have 15 different ones My favourite so far is this one, but I have a wish list of all the others I would like to get! Happy anniversary Yolky! You go for it!

Long gone are the days of drooling over handbags. About 15 years ago, I bought a beautiful handbag from a nice exclusive catalogue but sent it back because I just couldn't justify spending £100 on a handbag and have been a reformed character ever since. I carry my stuff around in a bag I made myself from a pair of my son's black jeans and some pretty anemone upholstery material .
Lesley
.....and I use my fabric bags made by a forum friend and plonk my £5 handbag, from the market, in them!
Paddy
I think it is a matter of choice. In every other part of my life I am completely controlled. I have never paid any money for animals - always having rescue. I cook meals from scratch and can spot a bargain at 50 meters. All of my childrens things were handed down including an awful turquiose pram that was far too low for me! But I still want that Mulberry handbag! I also spend once/twice a year a not too considerable amount on art. I did start with prints, then limited prints and now originals. You would not believe the pleasure I get from my art. I now have nearly moved all my other halfs cricketing pictures almost half way up the stairs now (this is after ten years!) To fund the pictures - I give myself a weekly allowance which I get out in cash. Anything I do not spend, I put in a money box which I cannot access. However not much is going into it at the moment as I am buying a couple of Xmas presents each week.
Mrs Frugal
Yes, I agree that it's completely down to choice. It would be a boring world if we all thought the same way, wouldn't it . I'm happy to spend a lot of money on a decent camera instead of handbags while my friend would throw her hands up in horror at the thought of that. Each to their own . Whatever makes you happy . Paddy
Mrs Frugal - On my wish list at the moment is a new digital camara - I have gone through three cheapish ones in the last five years with varying picture quality. Now this is another area where I may have to up my spending ...... !

Cinnamon
Its all about balance really, isn't it? I am sure that all of us have some area of total weakness in our lives, where we are tempted to buy something gorgeous, wonderful & probably impractical Life is far too short to be sensible the whole time Sarah - Kipling bags,Crocs & make-up junkie, aged

Lesley
It would be pretty boring if we were wouldn't it I just can't be faffed with handbags - a necessary evil as far as I'm concerned I just wish that more men would have manbags - they always say they don't need a bag and then either stuff their pockets or fill their wives handbags Carl is so skinny that his overfull pockets looked silly - I hate handbags and wasn't going to buy bigger ones just for his junk......so he has a manbag now. Mrs Frugal
Oh yes, I hate having the keys stuffed into my bag as it's so capacious, we can never find the bloomin' things again . LSH won't have a manbag though . Never in a million years . I like the idea of Annie's changeable bag skins though. That's a great idea. It would be nice to coordinate with an outfit.....although my outfits never coordinate with themselves, let alone a handbag .

chickencam
I can't get excited about bags I'm afraid. They are useful for putting things in and that is as far as it goes. Most of mine come from charity shops when the previous one has worn out. I used just a bum bag for years when I had small children and a pushchair and a changing bag, that was all I needed and it was easier to carry. I have narrow shoulders and bags just don't stay put, so i have to wear them slung accross my body, not very elegant.

Cate in NZ
What a timely thread for me . I walked past a shop in the city centre at lunch time and there was a handbag in the window, draped elegantly over the arm of a mannequin and looking seductively at me. It's lime green (but much, much nicer than that sounds) and in a kind of mock croc fake leather type material....but it's also $115. That's actually pretty much my entire take home pay for 1 days work, and also enough money to feed my family for a week. How can I justify spending that much on a bag. Even though I'm craving it . Decisions, decisions
debbier
It's about time I joined in this thread as I love handbags! The most I'd ever spent on a handbag was around £120 on a Russel & Bromley black leather smart day/evening bag. This was around 10 years ago, and the bag looks as good today as it did then. I don't use it that often as it isn't big enough for my lifestyle bits + bobs. A couple of weeks ago I went mad on a DKNY black leather bigger smart day bag. I'd been looking for a smart-ish black leather bag for ages that I could afford. I'd seen a couple of bags loved but they were £1000+ (MiuMiu and Dior!), and I'd not be comfortable taking a bag like that out of the house, let alone trying to justify the credit card bill to my hubby I've a really nice Desigual patchworky BIG bag that I bought at House of Fraser this year. That has more pockets than is practical, and hunting for a mobile phone is a nightmare: I really most put it in the same one all the time... My daughter has definitely inherited the bag gene from me, and is on a promise for a posh bag if she gets great grades at next year's GCSEs via a trip to the Bicester village outlet. Seagazer
I do love handbags a lot and I have quite a few but only a couple of expensive ones. My DD recently had her birthday and for her present we bought her a Links of London sweetie bracelet. We decided to get her a couple of charms to remind her of me and her dad. His is a moped (instead of his motorbike) and mine was a handbag as she knows I can't resist looking at them in any shop.
Paddy
Cate My mantra is walk away and always think on it for a few days. The visit again to see if it still holds the appeal. Then work out how to pay for it!
