I've turned into my Mother!!!!

Recommended Posts

I look very like my mum (except she is 30 yrs older and 100% white - where as I am only grey :) ). We regularly take my 94 yr old grannie to church on a sunday and sit there in a row all looking the same and I have acceoted that at least I know what life offers me over the next 60 odd years - if I make it for that long!! Now my sister and I look the same, sound the same and dress the same, can finish one another sentences and generally confuse the hell out of people.

When my brother's little girl was a toddler, my sisters said she was the spit of me when I was that age. Except I was very fair and she is quite dark as her mother is Nigerian. She is 15 now and really stunning looking, so maybe I was too at that age.

I have aspects of both my parents, but my mum says that I am spookily like her auntie at the same age. My YD is the spit of my Granny who died when i was about 5 months pregnant with her, she is very like her in character too, always bustling about and has to be busy. My OH is so like his Grandpa.

Families are odd aren't they. I look like my dad's youngest aunt too. My brother looks like my grandfather on mum's side. DS has double jointed thumbs like my brother - they have the same hands and feet. OH is like his mum facially (but better!) but temperament like his dad. DD is shaped like MIL and is as noisy as my SIL. Mum has pics side by side of DS and my dad. DS looks exactly like my dad at the same age - in fact they could be mistaken for twins if it weren't for the HMS on dads hat to indicate wartime and the battered black and white photo, whereas DS is in full technicolour.

Recently I made contact with a long lost cousin - we are connected through our great great grandparents (or in her case, great grandparent). Exchanging photo's her great grandmother looked like my grandmother - and other family members very similar. While I am quite like my dad, my body shape is the same as my grandmother too. I think my mum is more like her dad - very hard to tell.

We noticed when we saw or little baby nephew last week that he has the same thumbs as my OH they bend right back in a really odd way. Our DS has a lot of his uncle's mannerisms funny how genes pan out. Our ED is very like MIL in body shape and they have the same long thin hands and feet.

On the whole the genes from my OH's side of the family seem to have come through more in our children, but they all have my fair hair, OH's family are all much darker.

I look like my Dad about the face but otherwise am physically like Mum. I've caught myself sounding like her too, the other day Dad pressed the wrong button on his phone, called me instead of her and didn't notice when I answered...

We have a family photo that includes my great-grandmother Florence aged about 18 and I look very like her. She was my Dad's granny and a real character who lived to 102 and would still take on my Dad and his brothers at table tennis at 100 - and win. I hope I've inherited those traits!

Looks are odd things - DS1 looks like his dad, blond, hazel-eyed and chunky, although people who haven't met OH say DS1 looks like me. DS2 is quite different and looks like my dad's family - tall and slim with red hair, blue eyes and freckles. He strongly resembles my dad's dad - and was born 100 years to the day after him. If I believed that was any more than coincidence, I could make something very spooky out of it!

If I put DS2, my Dad and my cousin together, they look like a time-lapse photo of the same person - they all look very much alike (except my cousin is 6'8'', Dad only 6'1'' and DS not that tall yet as he's only 7!).

Funnily enough it isn't so long since my mother said that about her Mother.........but when I told her she was sounding just like Grandma and was too outspoken she was pretty miffed!! ....and denied it  ....and said she'd asked my stepfather and he said she wasn't  ..........perhaps I should just shoot her??
