PurpleTree
Oliver was born at midday, weighing 9lb 10oz! quote] My DS1 (middle child) was 9lbs 11oz, and his was the easiest of all my births, I was on my knees, leaning on the head of the bed, and I swear he simply fell out by the force of Gravity Incidentally, my other children weighed 9lbs 3oz and 9lbs 8oz, I don't do small babies. Maybe if I have another one, he/she might be a similar weight then? I worry that they might be 10lb or more. I did have Oliver naturally but with help - ventouse and forceps. Obviously having a epidural (which didn't actually work properly ) meant I was lying down. I had the epidural as my body was seriously wanting to push but I wasn't fully dilated, having an epidural seemed to be the only option, according to the doctors. Happy-Mama
thanks purpletree, I have been thinking about a Tens machine, have been recommended an epidural by people who have had them and have told the midwife i'd like one, she said that was fine. this may seem a strange question but I take it you aren't allowed to drive yourself to the hospital when in labour? PurpleTree
I was already in hospital before my labour's started, but I don't think I would've been safe to drive once the contractions started. I couldn't carry on walking every time I had a contraction. If you know already you want an epidural then I think they like to do them before your contractions get too bad, so you might not need a TENs. Also remember you can't really move around once the epidural's in. The worst part of my labour's was having the epidural, mostly because I really hate needles - I fainted every time they took blood I hadn't planned to have them, and I had it done both times when my contractions were coming thick and fast, which makes it harder for them to put it in. You've got to try and stay perfectly still when they are doing it, which isn't so easy when you're having contractions. Reading all this I'm wondering why me and hubby are considering having a third. Chucky Mama
I wouldn't advise it. The bumping around in a car can really speed things up, when my OH drove me to hospital for my 2nd it was all I could do to keep from delivering in the car so I think driving the bloomin' thing as well would not have been a good idea
Happy-Mama
lol, had a feeling the answer to my driving question would be no... hopefully OH will be home anyway otherwise will be a taxi or family driving... I feel hot and sick/faint when I have blood tests but I'm not afraid of needles, injections are a dawdle, have to have my second set of tests in a few weeks... was so happy when they said they were happy with the results of the first set until they said they do them again at 28 weeks
Happy-Mama
Hi, another question: did/are any of you suffering from mood swings during pregnancy? I have been a little up and down but yesterday was a nightmare... ended up shouting at OH who I hardly get to speak to as it is (he's offshore), and I can't say how guilty I feel now, even though I did say sorry before he had to go and I know he isn't annoyed with me. Also is there a way to change the topic title? Wanted to make it more of a general pregnancy thread for everyone rather than being just me and my questions. The Dogmother
Also is there a way to change the topic title? Wanted to make it more of a general pregnancy thread for everyone rather than being just me and my questions. You can change it by going in and editing your original post title, if you have any problems, then give me a shout and tell me what you want it changed to. From what i remember, mood swings are pretty normal..... just wait until you've had the baby and they all come crashing down
Looney
Morning Jen Jen, I did get a few mood swings not too bad though. A lady I used to work with used to get possessed by the devil (her words, not mine!) and found it almost impossible not to blurt out what was on her mind. She used to get furious! I think you should be able to edit your original post to change the title? All this baby talk is making me broody. I always wanted two children with not too big an age gap but we are controlled by finances (or lack of). I keep trying to work out when we could afford another! Two times part time nursery fees are just not possible for us at the moment. That reminds me, I must look into the vouchers / money off / free places that you get when your child reaches pre-school age....that could help a bit Oh and the baby that I have mentioned a couple of times already (my friends little boy born on 21 July) STILL hasn't been named! I'm getting impatient!
PurpleTree
I can't remember if I had mood swings or not, but it's understandable. Your hormones are all over the place, and you're pretty much constantly thinking about the baby and all things baby related, it's quite a stressful time. Although saying that I liked being pregnant, apart from the aches and pains and killer heartburn - Gaviscon became my best friend! Talking of pains, did you sort out something to help your back pain Jen Jen?
Aunty e
Mood swings are very normal - I am PURE EVIL and have been all the way through this pregnancy. I hit my husband when I was about four months pregnant, at a tube station with a rolled up newspaper. It was very uncharacteristic (although I maintain he deserved it). I have no tolerance for anyone, absolutely no impulse-control any more, and I won't let anybody visit the house in case I kill them for leaving a mess. I weep at the slightest provocation, I'm irritable and often hysterical. I'm assured it will pass. It had better.
Chickvic
Gaviscon was my best friend too and yes I had mood swings, couldn't watch the news because I'd be in tears all the time DH occasionally got the sharp end of the stick too, luckily he was very understanding I'd blame him for everything
PurpleTree
Just wondering how you all got/getting on cleaning the Eglu while you're pregnant? Was discussing trying for our third in the very near future with hubby the other night, and brought up the subject of looking after chickens - hubby has yet to even touch a chicken so can't see him scrubbing the Eglu. I'm sure I'll be able to do it for a while, but worried about making my back ache to much, and wearing myself out.
Chickvic
My children are 9 and 11 now, and I didn't have chickens then although we did have guinea pigs when I was pregnant with my second and DH just saw to them. You'll have to start training him up
Looney
I managed fine, although getting help with lifting the eglu lid might be an idea. Definitely time to train OH! Saying that, I had a good pregnancy and didn't suffer with any back ache thank goodness, think it would be much tougher with back ache. I used to get the really tight achy sort of pains across the front of my bump and just underneath it when I was overdoing things and (usually ) took that as a sign to take a rest. PurpleTree
I was still cutting the grass while I was pregnant last time, although my dad did help out a few times. Hubby doesn't know how to use the lawnmower although I'm sure I can persuade him to do that, whether it's up to my standards is another matter I get quite an achy back as it is since having my kids, so I imagine it'll only get worse when I'm pregnant again. The Dogmother
I had a big baby, so had lots of back and rib ache towards the end. Didn't stop me though was still exercising, decorating, making and hanging curtains
Aunty e
I moved a three piece suite out of the house about three weeks ago without any great difficulty - but I've had no back trouble at all (thanks Mr Pilates). We have a cube, which has been easy enough to clean out, as there's no bending over. If I still had the eglu, it might have been more tricky
Happy-Mama
thank you for the replies, am glad I am not the only one. Had to laugh at the rolled up news paper Aunty e. I really was awful (shouted and was basically horrible) and feel bad as he is so far away and I won't get to speak to him again until this evening. Hi PurpleTree, my stepmum found me a support belt that was the right size and that has helped a lot. Have also started Pilates (which I need to make myself do, as am being lazy with it at the moment). My back is still sore but nothing like it was, it's more of a niggling/annoyance now rather than i can't move like it had been when I posted the thread about it. I tried swimming at the end of last week and am going again today. Also happily taking the dog on long walks which he loves.
PurpleTree
with both of mine I had really bad aches in the lower half of my ribs, particularly on my lefthand side. When I mentioned it my midwife when I was pregnant with Daniel, she just rolled her eyes and said aches and pains are all part of pregnancy, didn't offer me any help at all. When I was pregnant with Oliver the ribache started really early on and was really painful. Hoping it won't be so bad if I have another one. Did anyone else experience this? Did you find any way of easing it?
The Dogmother
My rib pain was terrible towards the end; the big baby just had nowhere to go My brilliant osteopath worked wonders though.
craftyhunnypie
My sister has had rib pain all along, but has a way of shifting the baby. However with just a week left to go - she can't shift it anymore as it it well engaged ready for birth. I hope it comes soon - I am dying to spoil it. I wonder what it is? Tulip
Darn it after reading this thread I now have a new forum addiction - the TTC forums on babyandbump. Thanks aunty e - now when will I get any work done?! Seriously, hope you preggo ladies are feeling well! xx

That's the way one of the midwives reacted when I said about my back pain... not very helpful... sorry I don't have any advice about ribache, hopefully someone on here will or you could try talking to your GP before you have another baby, they might be more helpful?
