Cinnamon
Give her & them a chance at least. She might even turn out to be an asset
Guest
Whatever she contributes, she is not a professional dancer and just doesn't have the knowledge to advise the professionals on how to progress.
Cinnamon
I am sure she will be given training & advice on this. I for one think she will be a real bonus to the show, as she has a super personality & has lived being a contestant. I will keep my views on how much I want them to replace Brucie too, to myself
Seagazer
I am going to wait and see with Alesha before I make my mind up but I do think they should have picked somebody with a dance/ballroom background as surely this is the point of the show? I would have been happy with Karen doing it as she was always quite good on the Claudia show (brain has gone - is it It takes two? )
Faye&Ant
I really like Alesha and hope people dont give her too hard a time, she has always conducted herself well and she must have picked up loads of practical advice to be able to share. Its just a shame Arlene wont be there as well
Guest
I am not anti Alesha. It's not her fault and I'm sure she'll have some "when I was on the show" advice. It's the BBC's decision that I'm cross about. Alesha cannot be equal to the other two, whereas Arlene was.
Chickendoodle
I must admit I was a bit shocked when the announcement was first made to replace Arlene with Alesha. However, I think it may be a really positive thing. Remember last year when the public really loved Tom but as "professional" judges they could only mark him on the dancing quality so he tended to get lower marks as he wasn't technically brilliant. If it had been left to the judges he would have been out long before the final and he was the ultimate winner. Other contestants got high marks as they were technically very good but in my view put no soul into the dances (not going to name anyone as I don't want to start an argument!!!) Maybe, just maybe, Alesha will be able to give a more balanced mark as she will be judging not on purely technical merit but more as a viewer at home would judge - with the added bonus that she has done it so she knows how difficult it is. The judges have always said that they have to judge purely on the dance quality which means that they can, and do, give high marks to a technically brilliant but ultimately soulless dance. Only watched it a few times but doesn't Dancing on Ice have a mixture of ex professional skaters and a guy who just judges for entertainment value?? Also I expect Arlene blotted her copybook with the rather outspoken interviews she gave to the press about the John Sargeant episode so i don't think the accusations about ageism hold water. Anyway, Len is of a similar age. Personally I cant wait. I am very sad and also watch the BBC2 programe every night!!!!!!!

Griffin
Woohoo! They've announced the line-up here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8220020.stm The House of Griffin and indeed most of Faringdon will be cheering on Richard Dunwoody He used to live up the road from me and is good friends with many of my friends although I've never had the pleasure of meeting him. He's well loved around here and the work he's done for charity since retiring is amazing. I can't wait for it to start and to see him and Joe Calzaghe
Griffin
The official press release: The nation's favourite dance extravaganza returns as Strictly Come Dancing is back for its sparkling seventh series on BBC One. Once again hosts Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly will be guiding viewers through the glamour and the glitz, the tears and the twirls, as an exciting mix of 16 celebrity contestants battle it out to be crowned Strictly Come Dancing Champion 2009. And this year the UK's biggest and brightest dancing show is set to be better than ever with two new faces to the judging panel and three new professional dancers. Last year 13 million people watched actor Tom Chambers clinch the winner's title of Strictly Come Dancing Champion 2008. After months of speculation, the BBC is delighted to finally confirm the celebrity contestants hoping to win over viewers with their show stopping dance moves… For the women Ali Bastian – actress and star of police drama The Bill, who will be dancing with Brian Fortuna Lynda Bellingham – actress and TV presenter, who will be dancing with Darren Bennett Natalie Cassidy – actress and former EastEnders star, who will be dancing with Vincent Simone Martina Hingis – former professional tennis player and women's world No. 1, who will be dancing with Matthew Cutler Jade Johnson – long jumper and Olympic athlete, who will be dancing with Ian Waite Zoe Lucker – actress and former star of Footballers' Wives, who will be dancing with James Jordan Laila Rouass – actress and former star of Footballers' Wives, who will be dancing with Anton Du Beke Jo Wood – model and businesswoman, who will be dancing with Brendan Cole For the men Joe Calzaghe – Britain's only undefeated boxing world champion, who will be dancing with Kristina Rihanoff Richard Dunwoody – horse-racing legend who will be dancing with Lilia Kopylova Ricky Groves – actor and EastEnders star, who will be dancing with Erin Boag Chris Hollins – BBC Breakfast TV's sports presenter, who will be dancing with Ola Jordan Craig Kelly – actor and Coronation Street star, who will be dancing with Flavia Cacace Phil Tufnell – former cricketer and TV presenter, who will be dancing with Katya Virshilas Ricky Whittle – actor and Hollyoaks star, who will be dancing with Natalie Lowe Rav Wilding – TV presenter, who will be dancing with Aliona Vilani This year, for the first time, the series kicks off with shows on both Friday and Saturday nights for the first two weeks. And, with each couple having to dance two dances in their first week, the pressure to perform is on from the start… Friday night will be Ballroom night where the first eight of the celebrity contestants and their professional partners will be put through their paces dancing either a waltz or a tango. And Saturday night will be Latin night where things will hot-up even more as the same couples perform a cha-cha or a rumba. Dancing in the first week are: * Ali Bastian and Brian Fortuna * Lynda Bellingham and Darren Bennett * Joe Calzaghe and Kristina Rihanoff * Ricky Groves and Erin Boag * Martina Hingis and Matthew Cutler * Chris Hollins and Ola Jordan * Jade Johnson and Ian Waite * Rav Wilding and Aliona Vilani At the end of Saturday night the judges' scores from both dances will be combined and viewers will then be able to vote for which couple they want to stay in the competition. The two couples with lowest scores from a combination of judges' points and audience votes will then face each other in a dance-off. After both couples have danced again the judges will decide which one couple is safe and who will be waltzing off home. The following week, rising to the challenge are: * Natalie Cassidy and Vincent Simone * Richard Dunwoody and Lilia Kopylova * Craig Kelly and Flavia Cacace * Zoe Lucker and James Jordan * Laila Rouass and Anton Du Beke * Phil Tufnell and Katya Virshilas * Ricky Whittle and Natalie Lowe * Jo Wood and Brendan Cole And again one couple will be out of the competition. On Friday nights viewers will be treated to the 16 professional dancers performing a group medley, while the couples who are not competing will also strut their stuff in a group dance. From week three the series will move to Saturday nights only where viewers can get their Strictly fix in a bumper show with the dances, voting and the results in one episode. Back to give their opinions on the couples' performances are judges Len Goodman, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli. This year they are joined by two new faces in the form of singing sensation and former Strictly Champion Alesha Dixon and world-renowned ballet dancer Darcey Bussell, who will appear as a guest judge in the last three shows of the series. A change to the scoring system, and how points are awarded in the event of a tie in judges' scores, means that should there be a tie any one couple can be saved from the dance-off, and no one couple is safe. Legendary host Bruce Forsyth says: "It's an exciting line-up. Here we go again, I do hope you've all missed us!" While queen of the posh frocks Tess Daly says: "The line-up for this series is possibly our strongest yet and I can't wait to see all our couples together on the dance floor. Bring on the battle of the ballroom!"
Egluntyne
Woo hoo! Craig Kelly is my fave already. I met him at a charity cricket match and he is lovely. Charming and drop dead gorgeous to boot.
Chickendoodle
Loving the new system where they all have to dance a Latin & a Ballroom before the voting. It always seemed so unfair that someone could go out early on one dance, when you could get a waltz against a samba! Can't wait. My seat is ready, wine cooled, dog walked, phone charged
