Martin B
Hi, For me the last week of March and first week in June will be taken up by work experience. I haven't got a clue what to do. I'd love to do teaching or work with animals. However I wouldn't like to go to a primary school and there are no animal sanctuarys (farm animals) that I know of nearby. Anybodt have any help, ideas or advice? Martin

Guest
My DD2 has just arranged hers (end of May). She is going to work in our opticians. My DD1 worked in the local library. It's really difficult to know what to do, isn't it? I think we should post lots of ideas in the hope that something will appeal to you. When do you have to sort it out by? DD2 had to do hers by December 1st.
Martin B
There isn't really a set date but the sooner the better really. Lots of ideas welcomed!
Guest
Way back, many years ago when I were young.... , I did my work experience in the pensions department of the Co-op, in Edinburgh. I HATED it, and the only decent thing was getting taken or lunch in the managers resturant on the last day!
Charlottechicken
Can you go and spend time with the fire brigade We never did work experience when I was at school, good job really, a large proportion of people I went to school with are living off the state don't know how you'd do work experience for that! fourfinches
My eldest did his work experience at a community farm in the next Borough. It was this that encouraged him to ask about having chickens. He also wanted to keep goats but we've tried to convince him thats not such a good idea. I'm really glad he talked us into getting chickens. He enjoyed his work experience but realised what hard work it is on a farm - especially as there was heavy snow one week. Martin B
I'm going to have a browse throught the yellow pages looking at all the things you've suggested so far. Still listening though!
Snowy
Was going to suggest garden centre (Claire beat me to it!) Riding school or livery yard / Riding for Disabled 'Proper' nursery (rather than garden centre) Any stately homes nearby? (with large gardens) Kennels / cattery Local council will have a 'parks' or 'open spaces' team and most employ tree surgeons Environmental Health (rats and cockroaches are animals!!!) Karen & co.
Daniel is doing his about the same time Martin He is going to work with a friends OH who has an electronic based company (haven't clue what they do but it's something to do with money and bar codes, and he travels abroad quite a bit ) He looked at lots of options, but I suggested even if he really dislikes it, it is a positive placement, as he will then know what not to go into I'll ask him what some of his friends are doing, and let you know karen x
AnnieP
I agree Karen! I did work experience in a hospital, because at the age of 15 I was convinced I wanted to be a nurse. Soon realised it was definitely not for me, and therefore it was a really useful experience: Had I not done it, I might have wasted years more only to find myself in a job I didn't want! local builders? theherd123
Hatton Country Village Martin!!! They have loads of animals of all varieties - sheep, cows, pigs, chickens and if you are a fantastic employee for them they could give you a couple of Guinea Pigs as payment - they have got thousands of them!! They even do sheep racing - you will be the envy of all your mates when they say they have had a pants time working in some boring office and you can tell them you were busy racing sheep!!
