Vix_Chicks
Hang in there!! I felt the same... I'm just waiting for one of my hens to lay now The feeling you get when you find your first is worth the wait
sjp
are they crouching yet? if so they wont be far off ant thing from 10 days to a month from first crouching also prue breeds take longer to mature than hybrids. they might 29+ weeks before they are ready to lay. slao be prepared for them not to lay till spring with the days getting shorter I've got 3 that are about 17 weeks now it going to be late October early november before they're POL I don't expect them to lay this year sadly
Space Chick
I have 4 new pure breeds, one laid on the weekend for the first time at 29 weeks, no sign of the other 3 laying yet and they are all 27-29 weeks (although 2 more have started crouching) Hang in there, it'll be worth it
Gelbel
are they crouching yet? if so they wont be far off ant thing from 10 days to a month from first crouching When you mean by crouching - do you mean just when you (try to) pick them up? Or do they crouch at other times? My one that is deffo laying does not really seem to crouch - I wonder when I go to pick her up if it is me rather than her making her crouch. Space Chick
Crouching is what chickens do to be submissive ready for a cockerel. So crouching when you approach is the way its meant to be Some of my girls also crouch for girls higher up the pecking order too.
Gelbel
Thanks - I just needed to know if there was another time they crouched. Bet mine only semi crouches as she is only laying every other day at the moment (or there abouts).
sjp
Thanks - I just needed to know if there was another time they crouched. Bet mine only semi crouches as she is only laying every other day at the moment (or there abouts). the crouching does'nt reflect how often they lay my 2 layers some time crouch 2 or 3 time a day normllay when I'm trying to move them along other time they can go 2 or 3 days hens mostly only crouch if aproached from behind. they drop they rear end and lift they wing elbows to form a craddle and slight spread the wings for balance and sort of shuffle
