How Quickly Does Albendazole Work?

Hi, have had the girls for a week now and they have, so far, been drinking out of the top of the Glug quite happily . I want to put the Glug up so that they drink out if the teet properly but when I have done this they don't drink!

 

How do you teach a chicken to drink from the teet?

 

I have shown them that water comes out of it when you push it and Hester has done it once but not since. The others just look at the water coming out the teet curiously

 

I thought about putting it up and they might work it out for themselves but I know they drink a lot and I don't want them to go thirsty.

 

I have been told that it is better for them to stretch their necks whilst drinking so I really want to get them doing this.

Mine automatically knew what to do. They do however hate drinking from it and whilst it is in their cube they prefer to drink out of a bucket, bowl, puddle, off each others wet feathers, pretty much anything other than the glug.

I have large bunny water bottles which all of my chickens drink from but I also have a Glug (normal one), a bowl and a coop cup filled with water so they can choose what to drink from.

 

Maybe leave the glug high up so they can get to the teats but also have a bowl of water somewhere so that you know they can drink while they get the hang of the Glug

We actually have two glugs, one is high up the other is low down but they only ever go to the low down one - I think I have lazy chickens!

 

I suppose that as long as they are getting water, it doesn't matter much where from.

I've just gone back to using an old style glug and adandoned my super glug... my ladies never got it. They could use it but refused to most of the time and I found the water levels didn't go down.

 

In the hot weather I decided I'd go back to the old version so at least I know they'll drink.

Not many chooks seem to like those teats. i don't think they deliver much water.

 

Mine have a gravity drinker and two large bunny bottles.

Mine eventually learnt to drink from the super glug using the teats but I felt that the water wasn't coming out quick enough so I just let then drink out from the top and it seems to work better. As long as they are drinking I don't think it matters what you use as long as they don't tip over the container.

i gave up with the glug. they used to climb on top and fill it will muddy water plus used to

freeze easily in winter. I left it all as long as i could and used a bucket in the end but they

kicked it over most of the time... So i bought one of those gravity ones that hangs in their

run...BRILLIANT! - easy to see when its almost empty and keeps it off the floor.!!!

When I got my cube, I asked for two glugs as I use them to put feed in with my other housing. When you have a lot of hens, they aren't easy for them all to get to though and I use a gravity feeder to ensure that they can all get to the feed. Same with the drinker.

We bought a Superglug in the hope that it would make life easy for my friend when she looked after the girls whilst we were away. They didn't get it either, a couple of the used it but they were much happier drinking from a normal one or a bunny bottle.

 

We have now attached the grub and glug to little doors in the side of the run which can be opened without the chickens escaping and they can be taken off for cleaning and refilling.

 

The superglug is still in the run but they rarely use it.

Thanks to you all for your comments. I think I will just move the two glugs down low enough so they can get in the top, they seem happy doing that anyway
