Ours love the compost heap too... Haven't found their own way in yet though...

 

I have to fence them off whenever I am emptying it or turning it! They run up and down the fence yelling as I am doing it - but it takes soooo long otherwise, trying to avoid impaling a chicken on the fork!!

 

They now even recognise the fork as a Worm Providing tool, and get very excited whenever it is brought out of the shed!!

Mine go mental when they see any gardening tools too...lovely pictures. I am amazed there aren't more tales of impaled chickens when I see how near mine get to being stuck by a fork or beheaded by a spade.

Chucky Mama - They are a hybrid of the rhode island red.. think they're called red warren.. very friendly little things but one has been broody for about a month now and is starting to bug me! lol

 

Koojie - Mine go nuts if I go anywhere near the compost now they know worms live there! haha I get 1 on each arm and one under my feet, I look like a crazy bird lady to the neighbours! lol btw.. I'm sure I've said this before but I LOVE your avatar (although give me carson any day )

 

alih - My husband was laying paving slabs near their run the other week and was using a spade to did up before laying them down and Wendy was very nearly beheaded... lol she just couldn't resist the worm she saw hahahaha
