Ineed a career change! Currently doing admin and have been for the last 5 years, the only palce i have enjoyed doing it was an estate agents. This was only because we were so short staffed all the time I had to muck in with everything so I probably will not find the same job even in antoher estate agents!!

 

Does anyone else feel like this about their jobs!? Any suggestions! need something quite well paid due to having a mortgage but something I will enjoy and not be stuck at a desk ALL DAY long!!

 

Why cant we all have endless amounts of money so I can just set up my own little animal rehoming centre! that would suit me fine!!

 

I live in Bristol so if anyone knows of anything as well!!

Good luck with it, and I would say that if you aren't happy then go for it.

 

2 years ago, I decided to leave a 12 year career in Financial Services, as I was fed up of the travelling, long hours, targets, sales etc etc

 

I wanted to do something that would make a difference, so I joined the NHS and have been working to improve Cancer & Palliative Care. It is very rewarding and I am so happy I made the move. I took a 40% pay cut to do it, but have been promoted so now I have about a 20% pay cut, but it is worth it to be able to be home every night, and to take care of my Grandfather. Also, knowing that I am helping people in so much need makes me fulfilled.

 

Money isn't everything, the rewards I get now knowing I am doing something worthwhile is worth far more than the extra money I had :D

I have just left my job after 22 years and and have now trained to be a child minder - just waiting for my registration to come through then I can get cracking! I can't wait! Was soooooo sick of sitting at a desk, having to meet targets,staring at a pc allllll day (I know I do it now, but it's my choice :lol: ),best thing is, I can spend time in the garden with my girlies, and teach children about them as well.Win win situation me thinks. :dance::dance:

From my long experience ( I'm 60+ but working full time - and more), be prepared to take risks. I've never planned my career, but just gone for what I enjoyed. It's not done wonders for my pension, but what the heck! I've done some very interesting things that I'm proud of, on reflection.

 

Life is too short to stay in a job if you are unhappy - but you have to balance that against other commitments e.g keeping a roof over your head.

A trucker. Wow. Respect :lol: !!

 

I dont really like my job some days and as I have done it for a long time I get a bit bored and dont often find it challenging however I can flex my hours to suit which fits in nicley with the kids and sometimes when you have a busy familly life a challenge is perhaps not always welcome and its nice to have a easy life so all things considerd its not too bad.

No, Im definately more impressed with nurses and doctors - all that blood, ugh. And, teachers - all those kids, ughhh ! :lol:

 

 

My line manager wants to give up teaching to become a trucker! Ive never seen him drive but i know he's a great teacher :D

Its quite tough at the moment, not much work about, but slowly, slowly beginning to pick up so if he decides to go for it, I wish him luck and hope he enjoys it. :D And, I dont know but I would imagine its not as satisfying as teaching :)

Gem_Seb, I have often thought about a career change, but financially I have never been in a position to. (I'm 40). I've changed employers a few times and wasn't particularly happy in my last job, although I stayed there 6.5 years. I was recently made redundant. Scary!

But quickly got a new job within the same industry. Different side of the fence and with more emphasis on the accounts side. It sounds more suited to me. Fingers crossed.

However, as part of the consultation period, I got to see a career counselor. She suggested I put a 2 year plan in place to give me the opportunity to do something else should I wish.

For me this would mean further study and putting finances in place.

If you can work out what you want to do, you might need to plan and put steps in place first.

Hope you find something.
