Fox Attack Last night

Recommended Posts

My three girls were attacked last night and two were injured, one got away scot free as the fox got tangled up in the Omlet run netting. Thank goodness! It gave my husband time to save the situation and my girls are all alive. Shocked and traumatised but alive. Two girls are missing loads of feathers where the fox ripped them out but, and one has a leg injury, but fingers crossed they'll make it. They're eating and drinking a bit but otherwise taking it easy after their horrible experience

I shall be investing in the Gemini electric kit to go with my Omlet run netting

I hope to be able to handle them today to check them for wounds. They are up and about this morning but I'm keeping them in the Eglu run at the moment for their own safety and to give them time to heal. When I let them out for a bit yesterday they just sat huddled up. Gobby Ginger kept guard. So did I, I hovered round them all day, afraid to take my eyes off them

Probably best to only ever let them out when you are physically in the garden with them from now on. Now the fox has had a go-it will be back and it will get them the first chance it has.

Your poor girls were very lucky this time but chances are they won't be next time.

My girls have never been out of their run without someone being with them for this very reason.

Best of luck :D

That's what we do, only let them out when we're in the garden. When we first had our 2 they used to roam around most of the day when we were at home, but one day my OH was sweeping leaves at the bottom of the garden and came face to face with a small fox! He was very brave and only ran away when my OH move towards him! He came back a couple of times sniffing around the Eglu run door, so now it's only freedom for the chicks when we're in the garden which is a shame.

I had to take the most badly injured bird to the vets as her wing was just hanging down. She was as quiet as a mouse on the vet table. He thinks it might be too badly damaged to repair itself but has given her a week to improve and then I've to take her back. She had a pain killing and anti inflam injection and an antibiotic and has been quiet for the past two days. The other little one is on antibiotics via beak and she seems ok but she did spend most of yesterday in the nesting box. They're all out this morning and seem fine

I've not taken my eyes off them and have the windows and door open so I can hear everything :D Not been out while they've been unwell. I don't know they're worse than dogs and kids
