sjp
mine had one last weekend ate the seeds and some of the really soft flesh then lost interest but I'd chopped it in to 4 to stop them fighting over it. was fun to watch them with the seeds though

Lake Superior Chicks
And did you know.......................... the seeds are a natural de-wormer for chickens! My girls love pumpkin and the seeds. A win win situation! Ma
Chicken Shirl
That must be why I have never had to worm my chickens!! I have always thought that was strange. Now I know why.

Janty
I didn't know that pumpkin was a natural wormer. I suppose it's a bit like cherries being a natural headache remedy.

henriette
I have just been given a courge de provence which is sort of like a pumpkin. I will definitely go and give the girlies and Henri some! Really interesting about the seeds being natural wormers. I wonder if the same applies to this courge de provence or squash etc.?
Valkyrie
I think I might try a small one - just in case my fussy lot don't like it. Then I will try roasting it and see what happens. It's nice to have something different for them - and as for worming au naturel - added bonus if they do eat it.
Dappy Chick
Brilliant - just watched the Video. Off to supermarket tomorrow - I can't wait
cathybc
that's brill! I got one from Tesco on Sunday and was wondering how to give it to them - I got them a mini one last year and was going to cut the big one up and cook it. I won't bother now, they can have it as is! eggregiousness
Bought a big pumpkin today. Cut off a slice for the tortoise - he charged it in fury and is now sulking, cut a slice off for the parrot - he shrieked and is now perched as far away fromit as he can get, gave the rest to the chikkies - they are ignoring it. My animals don't read the right books
Valkyrie
I bought a small one, sliced some of the hard outer shell off, put some dried mealworms in to attract them. You would think I had baited it with bubonic plague. They gave it a wide berth. Eventually Squirt ate the mealworms and that's as far as that experiment went. Bah humbug.
