Inspired by Jools and Sha's postings I thought it might be nice for us all to show our Bitzas!

Whatever you call then...Bitzas, Mongrels or cross-breeds they are often stunning birds!

I will start:

Here are my Bitzas!

I have another Bitsa, but I think I've worked out what his bitsas are!

Meet Tweetie Tyson keeping a watchful eye over one of his Marans bantam wives and if you look carefully, you can see he's hiding another wife.

Now, I collected Tweetie, a Silkie Cross chick, because I wanted a reliable broody. You can guess the rest can't you! Once Tweetie turned into a boy, I couldn't change the name and added Tyson to his name this year after he started attacking my feet.

I've since worked out that he's a Silkie x Golden Appenzeller and very handsome he is too. And loud!

This is Boss, my original Bitsa. She's around 10 and is as tough as old boots, having survived my terrier's jaws the other week. I think she has some Brahma and Wynadotte in her, but I'm not sure what else. She lays me an egg most years, but usually softies, which she eats before I can get to them.

I've hatched a few Bitzas this year. They were Ebay eggs, all breeds under the sun free ranging in a field, so a real lottery as to what I got. They were born on February 1st. Here's Poppy, our biggest hen by far, she's huge! She lays very dark eggs so I'm guessing she might be Light Sussex X Wheaten Marans.

Robin hatched from a blue egg and lays blue eggs. I'm guessing dad was a Vorwerk.

Egeltine, named by a friend who would love to keep chickens but she cannot so Egeltine is hers  A very very strange girl, she's never laid, her pelvic bones are still tight together so heaven knows when she'll lay, if ever. She's a loner, always off doing her own thing and she doesn't interact with the others at all. Very skittish, I can't get near her once she's out. I'm guessing one parent was a red pyle something or other, wouldn't have a clue about the rest.

Their sister, Lily Pie, is a Cuckoo Marans cross, hatched from an olive green egg and now lays olive green too. Unfortunately she was rather noisy and has gone to live at a stud farm with a friend. She's going to pay a visit to his silver laced Wyandotte cockerel next year and I'm going to hatch out Lilydottes or Dottepies :D
