chick wiggle
I decided today, enough was enough. Sweetpeas poorly sore eye wasnt getting any better after treating with cold tea so took her to the vets this morning. He said it was her third lid that was covering half her eye and it could be a scratch, peck or a little bit of bedding stuck in there! She has had antibiotic and painkilling injections and we have drops to put in her eye. She is still in the pet carrier; He said to keep her seperate for a while to make sure she is eating and drinking ok, which she seems to be. Im loath to seperate her for too long from the others. Should I keep her in there for the rest of day, the night or do you think it will be ok to put her back with her friends?? Redwing
If the eye is not manky which would encourage the others to peck then I would put her back with the others
chick wiggle
No its definately not manky, no discharge, just very sore looking. Thanks Redwing, love having her in the living room with me, but i know she would be happier with her friends
Space Chick
I agree with Redwing, put her back with the others. If you are concerned how the others will react to her, maybe you could leave her in the cat carrier but in the run for a few hours to assess their reactions and then let her out. Poor sweetpea, hugs to you both xx
chick wiggle
Thanks SC, have put her back in the run and sat with them for half an hour and they all seem fine, just the same as ever, so hopefully she will be ok. Thanks for the advice guys x
chick wiggle
Sweetpeas eye wasnt getting any better even after taking her to the vets last week and applying drops everyday. This morning i took her back, dreading the vets prognosis. Would she have to have aneasthetic? Was it beyond repair? The vet (wonderful, wonderful man!) took her away so he could peel her eye lid back and have a good look. He came back quite shocked and showed me what he had found. Behind her 3rd lid, when he pulled it back this dropped out! No! not the penny Thats just to show the size. Its some sort of seed. How on earth it managed not only to get into her eye but behind her 3rd lid aswell i will never know She must have been in so much discomfort, I feel awful. The vet is still concerned about wether there is any damage to her eye but he said to give it 3 - 5 days and see how it is. So fingers crossed for Sweetpea please
