Roomba - Should I ?

Recommended Posts

I know I'm so late to this one that diehard Roomba fans have moved back to conventional vacumn cleaners  but I'm getting very tempted to go for one.

It sounds like you still need something more powerful every so often so I'd need to keep my henry and dyson.

I work from home during the day and like the idea of the cleaner going as I work  I just don't have time to vacumn more than once a week and it needs doing more often.

Downstairs (where I'd mostly use it) is hard surfaces with rugs and has two sets of double doors that turns most of downstairs into open plan. I looked up nfo on the site and it sounds like they have solved the rug fringe problem.

I have 2 cats however they don't shed that much hair as they get washed.

So I wondered about the entry level 505, I realise this doesn't have scheduling but as I'm at home anyway I could cope with pressing a switch :D

The top end pet option is nearly double the price

Now I could of course use that moeny for a cleaner but I've found working at home is not that compatible with a cleaner as I do need to work not interact (sounds awful put like that but if I had the time to chat I wouldn't need a cleaner) and after the only cleaner to do a good job returned home to Eastern Europe I couldn't face trying more expensive rubbish cleaners again.

So any thoughts/comments ?

I would say it sounds ideal for you! :D

I've had my Roomba for a couple of years now and still love it to bits. It's ideal if you have a more open plan area to clean, all I do is move the dining chairs onto the top of the table and that's only because it otherwise takes a while to work it's way around all those legs!

It will never replace a "normal" vacuum cleaner in my house (as it cant get behind the tv into the corner of the room) so I tend to use it mid week for a quick once over and use the Dyson at the weekend.

I quite like just pressing the button before I leave for work and coming home to find a clean floor - very satisfying.

I am someone who had one & loved it,bu when it broke for the second time I gave up,got a refund & went back to my Sebo.

It IS nice to have a little thing scuttling about hoovering for you, and they are really funky & work pretty well, but:

1- They take ages compared to whipping the hoover out,& can need recharging mid clean if your rooms are big

2 - You need to make sure that there is nothing in its way.Chairs need to go up,& it will get stuck in places.Mine always got caught under my wardrobe door

If your house is at all messy, its a pain.

3 - The motor itself isn't noisy, but they do bang into things a lot, which can get a bit aggravating.

4 - The need cleaning really well after each clean.Hair gets all wrapped around the cogs & according to some Internet research I have done, there may be a design flaw which means fluff gets sucked into the motor, causing it to heat up & break. This is what happened to mine, twice :?

5 - You still need a hoover for the stairs, & Roomba doesn't get right into the corners very well, nor clean the top of your skirting boards,if you have them.

I don't regreat buying Roomba in the first place, but am happy to use my cylinder Sebo now instead.

If you do go ahead & get one,get it from Lakeland.Their customer service is great - they refunded me with no questions asked :P

I love my Roomba. I bought the older version from Lakeland but they had to replace it twice. The 2nd time I got the newer version that doesn't allow the fluff into the motor. I couldn't live without my Roomba and I actually need more than 1 because she's overworked.

How have I never heard of this??? Just looked on the Lakeland website and now it's my #1 most wanted thing ever!

If they could get them to do the stairs I'd buy two. My other half would be entirely redundant then...
